I'm part of a team that work on multiple infographic shots simultaneously and we would really like to be able to link to external after effects compositions that could contain components that are being reused on all shots.
In that way someone could setup and animate dummy components within one .aep file and then the rest of the team can link to those components compositions (as if it where footage) and start on each separate shot.
All the while the dummy components can be tweaked and finished and that would ripple out to all the other team members shots.

This is much like how external referencing models in 3d softwares work.

Working remotely with clients and coworkers. The issue is that mac sometimes leaves off filename extensions like .psd which pc needs to recognize files. Changing the filename to include filename extension allows the file to be used on pc, but then it's breaks the file connections on the mac because the filename was changed.
On top of this: When trying to reconnect the file, I got the error: cannot import file first entry in folder is another folder.
I had to click through this error over a dozen times before it brings up the menu to select the layer in the photoshop file I needed to reload.
AE is normally supposed to automatically replace and reload the other layers from the photoshop file once one layer is fixed, but in this case it did not.
So at this point I was faced with having to manually reimport each layer of the PSD, clicking through a dozen error messages each time, or importing from scratch and having to redo all the After Effects animation. I'm not sure if this is a result of the issues coming from macs sometimes dropping filename extensions and having to add the extension name on pc, or if there is a second and separate error happening that thwarts the file relinking. It wouldn't be a big deal if it recognized the rest of the file once I fixed one layer. It only seems to happen with these After Effects project files going from mac to pc.

Currently, if I want to export a “sticker” (Animated GIF with transparency) for social media, I animate the GIF in After Effects, export a MOV with alpha, via the AE renderer, bring that MOV into Photoshop and export a GIF with transparency via the (legacy) web export. This is a lengthy, complicated process that creates a heavy and useless, for the end product, MOV file.

In my opinion there are multiple things wrong with this workflow and could be improved by allowing direct export of transparent GIFs from AE.

1. The Adobe export/render preference for most formats is via AME
   Issue: Formats including Alpha, can only be exported from AE directly. This breaks the standard workflow. Improvements to/ development of the AE renderer have been stopped.

2. Animated GIFs can only be exported from AME without transparency
   Issue: In order to export a GIF with transparency, an additional step has to be performed, thus breaking the standard workflow.

3. The web export in Photoshop is a “legacy” export. Does this mean it will at some point be obsolete?
   Issue: If Adobe decides to make this export method obsolete and remove it from Photoshop, there will be no other option to export “stickers”.

I’ve posted before about earlier iterations of V17, since it was released. I and others have found there are serious performance issues in the Dynamic Link. Client templates created in Ae several versions ago and used continuously since, often do not appear or update in PPr when they are modified. Often the thumb will display in my account and library correctly in PPr as the modified version, but when it is opened on the PPr timeline, it displays the content of the previous template that had been deleted...
I updated to Ae v17.5 and PPr 14.5 last week. I had hoped this would have been a priority issue and fixed as the DL is a USP. But reliability is worse.
Apart from the issues reported - e.g. having to constantly purge the cache and keep resaving templates until the latest v opens correctly in PPr, now parts of a text will be missing when the template is opened in PPr. Updating the text box does not display the missing text. Worse, some of our templates that had worked across various iterations (and in earlier iterations of v17) are now opening as corrupt!
These problems have made working with the DL almost impossible. Yet, the DL is promoted as a USP, so Adobe needs to address this point seriously and as a matter of urgency to solve theSE problems.

I'm importing PSDs with rotoscoped and affected video layers into After Effects. If one of the video layers in the PSD comes from a video file (in photoshop: Layers>Video Layers>New Video Layer From File.../or file>open and open a video file) and I try to import that PSD into After Effects I get any number of errors. See screenshots. If I remove the MP4/MOV layer in Photoshop and try to import then the error/bug doesn't happen.

Even if I save the PSD with video layer hidden I still get the errors.

I was able to reproduce these errors both on the current version and current BETA version in MacOS Catalina.

Dialogue box says "The Photoshop Library operation failed because Quicktime is not installed on this computer" Quicktime is obviously installed so that was not the issue, the issue was that After Effects produces a bug the PSD was links to an MP4.

When you try to do the same thing with a MOV file you get a similar error "After Effects error: Problem with the document. Missing Footage in the file. ( 39 :: 0 )"

With the second error all animation disappears. In After Effects the imported PSD is stuck at the frame the playhead in Photoshop instead of seeing animation.

Please make Photoshop Video Layers and After Effects play nice again, like in this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIUhyNAwcTs&feature=youtu.be , it gives us a world of possibilities.

I somehow was not having this issue a couple days ago, not sure what I did differently. Though I was getting errors in After Effects things worked as they should.
