  1. Render speeds

In the year 2018, going on 2019, there is no reason why After Effects should not be one of, if not the fastest program on the market. Multicore processing, and CUDA based rendering is available in just about every piece of software EXCEPT After Effects. That is just dumb. Make that happen in 2019. You're welcome.

  2. Why does point tracking gradually slow down?

If you track a point on a shot which is quite long and not saved in RAM the tracker gradually slows to a crawl. I recently needed to perform a face track on a 15 minute piece of footage. It's near realtime for the first 300 or so frames then it gets slower and slower until it's tracking around one frame a second. This seems completely illogical, why would it matter how long the footage is?

  3. Faulty composition preview

I was working on a project today when the preview window of my composition went completely blank, when I moused over the layers of my composition, the bounding box appeared but the artwork was not viewing. I recall having this problem before and its clearly frustrating to say the least. Several hours of work have been lost.

I reset the preferences with command shift and alt and the composition still won’t view. Other compositions will show. Its just this one that is faulty. I will have to incrementally save from now on to prevent this issue becoming a minor disaster

  4. Choosing which GPU is used by Mercury Engine

Currently Mercury Engine automatically use GPU that is used for display (one that is connected to a monitor). I wish it would be possible to accelerate effects with other GPU, not one that is used for displaying things on the monitor.
IMHO it would save some VRAM for OpenCL/Metal purposes, since second GPU would not have to store video buffer.

  5. RAM Preview

RAM preview isn't working today. Cache and database are empty, yet when I hit space bar all I can hear is the music, nothing happens with the animation. And no, Caps Lock isn't on. I'm sure it's just a matter of the new update rendering my fully-speced 2017 iMac useless, but it would be good if I could get another year out of it.

  6. Preview rendering gone when moving a audio clip

Hi. It's so bad that when I have rendered a preview of the timeline and then just move a short audio clip in time, the preview needs to start over. You really need to do some major change to the preview functionality.

  7. Please add a read-only "selectable" property in ExtendScript

Currently layer properties don't have an accessor to check whether or not they are selectable. The only way to check selectability with 100% certainty is to write a
    try { layer.property.selected = false; selectable = true; }
    catch(e) { selectable = false;}
type of block, which runs very slow.

I'm a technical artist, and I'm writing an in-house exporter. With a fairly complex project the above piece of code, checking all the properties in all the layers, runs for 12'30''. Replacing the try-catch block with a normal property accessor check speeds it up to 0'02'' - more than 300x better…

  8. Can you please test and confirm if NVIDIA 940MX is supported by After Effects?

    Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
    Device: GeForce 940MX/PCIe/SSE2
    Version: 2.1.2 NVIDIA 391.25
    Total Memory: 3.96 GB
    Shader Model: 4.0 or later

    CUDA
    Driver Version: 9.1
    Devices: 1 (GeForce 940MX) (unsupported)
Current Usable Memory: 3.33 GB (at application launch)
    Maximum Usable Memory: 4.00 GB

It is showing that it is unsupported but my processor is starts running once I open After Effects. Could you please test and confirm if this is supported by After Effects?

Thank you for filing this request.

What type of support are you requesting?

After Effects supports Nvidia, AMD, and Intel graphics chipsets for Mercury GPU acceleration. (Enabled in Project Settings > Video Rendering and Effects.) We have not specifically tested or certified the GeForce 940MX chipset, but it should meet requirements. If you can not set the project to use Mercury GPU Acceleration (CUDA), install the latest drivers from the Nvidia web site. (This is assuming that you are using Windows. CUDA is not supported by After Effects on macOS, but Metal and OpenCL should be available.)

The Ray-traced 3D renderer (Composition Settings > 3D Renderer) has been deprecated as of After Effects 16.0 and will be removed in a future release. We no longer certify cards for compatibility with this feature, and recommend that you use the CINEMA 4D renderer instead.

  9. when i try to do this efffect it boggs down my computer

does anyone else have problems trying to do this effect or is it just me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PluDfzBLQg?

  12. Don't store 3d camera tracking date in the AE project file.

The reason I am suggesting that is the auto-save function. The bigger a project grows the more important it gets - because crashes appear more often. The more cameratrackings you make, the heavier your project gets.

Waiting for the auto-save to finish really kills the flow as it can take up to 1 minute. Which you'll have to add to all those crashes and restarts.

I don't really believe in the background-saving idea (like photoshop does), because I fear not to have a good responsiveness while the project is saved.(like photoshop does not have)

  14. Make cache playback work with UI scaling in Windows 10

When any scaling other than 100% is set in Windows10, cache playback will never hit realtime, although its reading from a cache SSD, like in my case. This is really annoying.

  15. Preview Issue

After Effects 2018 stops previewing after a while. It occurs when I've been working on the project for a while or if I've switched to a different window (internet, other adobe app, etc). Purging the cache does nothing and only a restart solves the issue.

  17. Purge/release RAM during rendering

When rendering in After Effects, the RAM is filled up to it's maximum (if needed) and then continues to cache to disk. This usually makes the computer completely useless for the time After Effects is rendering and until RAM has been purged afterwards.
Why not purge/release the already rendered frames? Not only could the computer be used during rendering to some extend but this should probably speed up rendering as well.

  19. Bug Report: AE crashes each time I open a project converted from an older version

I get the rainbow death wheel on my Apple laptop and need to force quit AE. When it occasionally works, the program won't save or export anything through the render queue. This only happens in projects that were overwritten from previous editions of AE.
