Independent values for height and width of the background behind closed captions
Please allow us to customise the width of the background independently from its height.
I want to be able to have just a little vertical space but a lot more space around the horizontal edges so that the captions look more pleasing to the eye. Without this, I have to create my own rectangles and adjust the width of each one manually for every individual caption :(

100%! Also, the vertical height should remain constant if we want it to, so that it doesn't differ between subtitles like these:

I've seen similar requests with more votes but voting again for this feature to be added. I'm captioning a video right now and in order to adhere to my client's brand guidelines they require the background width to be longer than the height but I can't do that with the current features. Adobe really did great with this caption tool but now it's time to perfect it and make it a tool for the people.
Maybe give us a few options for; adjusting the caption background to a custom fixed length/height, additional button to turn on/off the background auto-fit to length of text (some need it and can be useful for sure, but then some don't, this is life), and that's it! A few more ways to customize our subtitles and this thing is perfecto.
And thanks for the workaround idea, Trym Lyssand! I hadn't thought to add spaces, I may try that or I may just add a black box and annoyingly adjust it for every caption in my 5 minute video, like our job isn't tedious enough, sigh. Hopefully Adobe can save us.

This functionality would save our company enormous amounts of work.
As a workaround I add spaces (spacebar) manually on each side of every line. It takes up a lot of my work day, and is extremely annoying and tedious work.
Imagine having to do this on long form dialogue driven content for multiple languages.
I have attached a video example of what I mean.
Please add this functionality!
