New Import Tab Issues and Suggestions
Just jumping in on the wave of issues in the new update and starting this thread to hopefully and constructively focus on the import tab.
But before that - Appreciate all the hard work and definitely don't condone hate speech, death threats etc...
Now given y’all don’t seem too keen to revert to the old ways - here are some issues and possible suggestions
Issue: Can’t create a sequence first and then add media.
Reasoning: I guess a lot of pros/orgs already do some media management first on larger projects and quite often the sequence settings is different to clip settings also there are numerous clips settings
Solutions: We have a button somewhere that allows us to create project/sequence without selecting media. OR ideally, we can click the “Edit” tab and this takes us to a naked a project similar to after effects or old ui.
Issue: New folders don’t always appear in import tab.
Further explanation: If I am creating a new project and add a new folder via system ui under the “Project Location” dropdown tab. The import tab doesn’t show the newly created folder. Sometimes it appears if I go to a new another folder and comeback to the same location but other times I have to restart premiere.
Solution: Maybe we can right click on the import tab and click “Refresh” or click “Add New Folder”
Issue: UI feels slow. This is less of an issue but more of an annoyance.
Further explanation: All our computers here are intel 12gen 12900k or amd thread rippers with multiple GPUs and with usable ram sitting anywhere between 64-256Gb and all of them seem to be a touch sluggish on this new ui. I.e. the grey highlight box around the folder are slow to light up when the mouse hovers over them. When you select a folder / file itsa touch slow for it to turn blue. When you click into a folder there is a lag. The more files there are the slower it gets.
Solution: not too sure 😊 Hopefully we can speed it up. Especially when we compare it to system ui or even media browser.
Hope that’s constructive.
Thank you, Matthew. This is some very reasonable and actionable feedback. We will definitely look into this. Please see my comments in the thread for my specific response.
