Be able to click an existing file name when choosing file path for exporting, and have your export be automatically re-named to that
This was a feature in non-beta Premiere
This has been fixed in version 22.5 which is available now. There is a slight difference between Mac and Windows that you should be aware of. On Mac you can select any file with any file extension to copy the name. On Windows, the default is to only show the same file extensions you are trying to save. So if you are exporting a .mp4 and want to copy the name from a .mov, Windows makes this hard - it hides the .mov files from you. We are working to fix that specific issue on our end somehow since it's a silly limitation. This is the same behavior as the legacy export mode. There is a workaround on Windows though. Type *.* (star dot star) and hit Enter in the filename field. This will show all files in the directory. This is a function of Windows that Premiere Pro has very little control over but we are still looking into it to see what we can do. I'm marking this request as completed, because I think the change we made addresses the request here. Thank you all for bearing with us while we worked this out.

Also, what about simply using the Quick Export panel (top right) ? it works OK for choosing a filename
This issue has been fixed and you can try it out in the latest beta right now. The fix will ship in the next update of Premiere Pro.

I’ve only done half a dozen exports since updating and already so frustrated with having to type in a file name instead of ammending a previous one like I used to. It's not just the typing, it's having to look in explorer to see what file names I’ve previously used.
Awful decision to take this out (was it a decision or an error?)

The export screen takes more clicks than ever, and please don't split apart the name from the destination folder, since if you want to replace a file with a new version but keeping the original name you have lo look it before in the explorer/finder and then fill the name, which is really annoying.

Adding my similar feedback as others to bring this ability back.

I think you should really take a step back and admit the new UI is wrong in every way possibile.
You already admitted that the file name issue is a regression from the previous version, and it's a BIG one: this kinda proves that something went wrong with the new design, since even something as big as this was messed up.

Just adding my voice to this, the new export feature is really clunky and adds time and effort to what was previously a very straightforward process (workaround for now - send to Media Encoder instead and set your output requirements there). I also find the new Import / Edit / Export tabs at the top an unnecessary addition which I have accidentally clicked on several times. Suggest making these optional for new users.

I can't believe anyone would take this away. This is massively missed by me.

Please make the Windows New dialog more easily accessible. At this moment to get there you have to click on Project Location and then go to the bottom of the drop down list to click Choose Location. I believe power users usually use the options such as the windows Quick Access features etc.. and the ability to paste in directories from other window explorer windows. thanks

The new export feature does take longer, at least give us the option of opening the old export window quickly. I appreciated the compact size of the old export feature, the drop down windows in the new function are a pain to navigate. Clicking down video, then clicking "more" to access bitrate and other features, then scrolling down to change these settings, seems like way too many steps.

This new interface is a ****, to be gentle.

This whole header with extra panels is just BS. And the fact that I can't remove it is beyond me. I accidentally click on that thing EVERY TIME. This new interface is a disaster. I'm downgrading my Premiere because this is completely unusable.

We are seriously considering ditching Adobe over this... the export UI is a disaster, it's making out work unbearable.

The new interface is unnecessarily bulky and confusing. Same with the import interface when building a new project. I've been a professional user of the platform for 10 years and this is the least helpful upgrade yet. Please go back to the old UI

This new interface is just wasting my time, please put back the old version

IMHO, the *whole* of the import/export interface is a regression in terms of logical workflow with the fewest amount of clicks. I'm usually excited when new features are announced, but honestly this latest UI change is truly frustrating to work with.
In their quest to simplify and streamline workflow for their users, they've actually made it quite worse. Bring the old UI back please.

I love how Francis has responded that this is a regression from the previous version, yet still manages to pass all of Adobes testing and finds itself being rolled out to paying customers who are using Premiere professionally before actually being anywhere near ready.
Great job team!

I would like to add to this thread the ability to *multiply or /Divide in export window. I used it all the time, this new export window takes the ability to type in * or / to quickly up-res or down-res your sequence on export without having to change your sequence or knowing the specific numbers. As long as your original aspect ratio is right it's good to go.
Why is this important? When working in smaller sequence settings it may limit you to 1/2 playback, this is not helpful when it need to be 1/4 or 1/8. Working with a bigger sequence size and then quickly /2 on export was super efficient for me and didnt require typing in any numbers.
Very unimpressed with this entire adobe update.

I HATE THE NEW INTERFACE

Adding my voice to the mix. The new interface is horrible. Not being able to click the previous version file name to autofill for the current rev is ******* me off every time. twirling down setting is so not needed. I read you are working on it. Please get it in a sprint earlier than later. Less clicks is always better.
