Need official Production migration support
There is currently no documentation, nor direct support from Adobe with clear instructions in how to best migrate a production to a new location. I have talked to Adobe support through online chat and on the phone and they had no idea how to answer this question, so I'll lay out below what I've been trying to do.
We are moving a project folder containing a production and assets from one server to another, and simply copying the files over does not quite work correctly, specifically with Multicam sequences and their source sequences. When the project is copied, either via drag and drop, or carbon copy cloner to the new server, there is the obvious file re-linking that needs to happen. That is fine after some manual searching. However, the source sequences for a multicam sequence seems to randomly link to the old location and project. When command+double clicking a multicam clip to open its source, it says the project it needs to open is located outside of the production, which then it opens the old project in the old location, even when the current one is open and it should be linking there like it did when originally set up. The footage is all linked in the new folder location, however it still wants to open the old project.
It is very random as to which multicam sequences correctly link to the source inside the current production and which don't, some link and open just fine, but either way I've had to manually option+drag the current location's source onto multicam clips to re-link, which becomes a problem when our production has hundreds of multicam interviews.
Wether or not there is a better way to migrate, or have the proper settings selected for copying a production, there is no info on this listed anywhere, and having documentation and official support would be much appreciated in this way. We do have all the XMP metadata linking settings turned off as suggested in the current documentation in creating a production. It seems the migration process was simply overlooked in how people would be working with productions. This also applies when needing to backup a production to an external drive for storage. It doesn’t seem to work in exactly the same way as a normal project folder would because of the source sequence linking issue, and knowing why would be hugely helpful.

Hi Alex
The production folder shouldn’t really care where it lives, but PPro does care where the media lives. If you are moving media, the best thing to do is make sure the file paths for all media is the exactly the same (down to the volume name) as the old location. If the paths are different, then each and every project file in the production folder will need to relink media upon opening…relinking the media in just one project won’t filter to all other projects.
Also, make sure the computer can't see the old location...if on a server, unmount the old server...there is a known issue where if there are two identical paths, it could try looking at the old path and get confused. But by removing the old path as a possibility, PPro should find everything and sync up properly.
