Very slow import of assets containing closed captioning
I am attempting to import (link) a 90 minute plus asset using Premiere Pro v. 15.4.2 for on-air versioning. I have two Full HD OP1a .mxf assets that are identical, except one contains Closed Captioning on line 18 and the other does not...
The asset without CC is acquired in less than a minute and the version containing CC requires more than 10 minutes to accomplish the same task. It makes no difference if Preferences > Media > Include Captions on import option is checked or unchecked. The outcome is the same when CC is present..
Seeing that assets of extended duration that DO NOT contain closed captioning are acquired in a more reasonable amount of time (less than 1 minute), I feel the problem is a result of attempting to import (link to) those assets of extended duration that do contain closed captioning, whether or not cc is being stripped on import. To be clear - engaging or disengaging the "Preferences > Media > Include Captions on import" option has no effect on the duration of import - which requires at least 10x more time.
I have been unable to find any buried menus that might address this issue. The additional time is affecting workflows... and is unacceptable for many operators. Please advise.

I ran into the same issue so thought I'd share my experience here.
Using Adobe PP 2022 - I have several 2-hour clips that I was trying to import. I was getting the "scanning for closed captions" load bar in the bottom right corner and I couldn't view my clips as they were in a pending state because of this and PP was unusable while this was happening. I know this was specifically addressed, but in PP 2022 I was able to go into Media Settings in Preferences, uncheck the "Include captions on import" box. As well as deleting and auto-generated Captions track in my timeline. Restart Premiere and boom, my problem was solved.
It seems Adobe did fix this in the 22 version so hopefully you don't have this problem anymore.

Sorry for the frustration. 10min to wait for a file to import is awful. We have actually fixed this issue in version 22.1.2 (the December '21 release). We'll now import embedded captions asynchronously. This means that we'll import the file immediately and you can even start editing but the caption stream will get decoded in the background. You will still have to wait for the captions to get decoded but this is way better than the import process being blocked.
The preference for importing captions does indeed speed up import time of media with closed captions. I'm surprised it's not working for you.
There is one other control you should be aware of:
- Option to restore captions onto the timeline from a piece of media (Right-click on clip in timeline > Restore Captions from Source Clip)I hope this helps

I have received no help with this issue since my original post. It is a shame that this Adobe support forum only consists of its users and that there has been no input from the engineers who designed the program. It only goes to prove that the "Pro" is only in the name "Premiere Pro" and they do not care about the program.
This fault slows down work flows and adds unnecessary time / labour costs to what should be a simple operation. This may be okay when you are playing for the bush leagues but it is not acceptable in a professional post production environment. It may be best to migrate to Media Composer as a work around.

I am having a similar issue. I have several MXF's of ~50min episodes of shows from a broadcaster. In the project panel, the columns like Frame Rate, Media Duration etc just show Pending, and if I try to load a clip into the Source Monitor, it just shows the Media Pending graphic. I can see the Scanning Closed Caption activity in the lower right of the UI, and it is barely moving after an hour. I turned off Include Captions on Import in the Media settings, but I close the project and production and reopen it, and it still is stuck on, I assume, importing the captions. HELP! This is making my final project worse because I cannot look at all the media.
As an aside: ADOBE: I DO NOT WANT NEW FEATURES. I WANT EXISTING FEATURES TO BE RELIABLE.
