Premiere Pro CC 2022 crashes on Fast Forward
When I hit the "L" key to fast-forward while playing on the timeline, and hit about 4x speed, the audio stops scrubbing (I think this is normal), followed by Premiere Pro locking up. There's no way to halt the playback at this point, and eventually Premiere Pro locks the entire system - even the mouse cursor won't move. If I shutdown/restart fast enough (after Premiere locks, but before the entire system locks), I can get a reboot to happen. Otherwise it's the reset switch.
It is very similar to the problem described here, except I'm running Premiere Pro 2022 on Windows 10, and the video format is XAVC S HD:

If I edit AVCHD footage, the problem doesn't seem to occur. I've tried turning off hardware accelerated encoding/decoding in the Media preferences, with no effect on this. I'm guessing it's a Premiere bug - suggestions?

I was experiencing exactly the same issue but eventally managed to get Premiere to behave (almost) normally by changing the memory settings:
Edit > Preferences > Memory > Optimize rendering for:
(then switched from Performance to Memory). Hopefully this might work for others? -

I have the same issue. I bought a new windows 10 machine that is way faster than my older machine with more RAM faster graphics card, the whole nine. The only issue is that I installed version 22. My older machine had version 14. Now I have the same issue with shuttling - the video pauses and the audio keeps playing and I unable to pause. I wasted about 4 hours with support at this point, and they cannot fix it. The only thing that has helped can do is to install an older version. Version 15 is more stable. This is a very serious issue that is wasting a ton of my time while editing.

Same issue and have replicated it across more than a dozen different systems (all Macs - iMacs, iMac Pros, and Macbook Pros) in our facility. Any attempt to create a multicam clip and use JKL to shuttle through it freezes the application after a few seconds of shuttling. The audio continues to play, but the video and playhead freezes, requiring a force quit. The iMacs have 32Gb of RAM. Issue occurs whether we are using external SSDs, editing off our central server, or locally connected disk arrays. Interviews range anywhere from 5 minutes to 1 hour in length. Have tested HD and 4K media - although everything has been H264 at this point. Changing our workflow to all ProRes at this point is unrealistic, so I haven't tested a codec change yet.
This is a pretty huge issue, as our documentary workflows require a lot of mutlicam and a lot of shuttling through that footage quickly. Moving all our machines back to 2021 which does not exhibit the issue.

The issue happens to me every time I try to shuttle faster one way or the other. Proxies don't work, and every time Premiere freezes my RAM usage goes through the ROOF until I force quit the program.
ANY word on a fix for this issue yet?

It's happening weather I use proxies or not

I'm having the same problem as well. Late 2021 imac with maxed out specs. I'm using sony a7siii 8 bit 4k footage at 24p.

Similar bug appearing on Mac. My machine doesn't crash, but during fast-forward playback, the playhead freezes, then the image freezes, but audio playback continues well after I have hit space-bar to try to stop playback, sometimes for upwards of 15 (real-time) seconds.
The bug appears on all versions of Premiere 22.x

I support this topic, because after upgrading to the latest version, I immediately saw a low playback speed without a proxy. In version 15 Premiere, everything worked well. Now Playheads seems to be suffocating and he does not have enough air. Fix it finally. Make playback easy without lags and brakes. Especially painful is the fading of Play heads for a few seconds when pressing a combination of JKL playback shortcuts. It's just awful. Check the double or triple speed several times and you will understand what I am talking about now.

@Voosh Moozik - I have not ever used proxies, it's something I've been meaning to find a tutorial and learn, I think they'd be relevant to a few larger projects I have from time to time, but I've always just edited straight off the raw footage, without any issue, other than the local disk space usage sometimes.
In respect to this problem, I expect proxies would help, as the files to deal with would be smaller, but it's not something that's been a requirement before either - it again feels like overhead to mask a PP2022 problem, which PP2021 does not have.

does it happen if you use proxies?

Note that as per the thread here:
https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-discussions/premiere-pro-cc-2022-crashes-on-fast-forward/m-p/12530449This appears to also be related to file size - the crash may not occur on smaller files (I have tested up to 12GB), but is happening on larger files (the file it crashes for me on is 35GB / 92 mins)
