so when working in color workspace audiotracks can be small, when working in audio workspace audiotracks can be big - customizable of course

This already exists... just not as part of the workspace. Adjust the tack heights the way you like them and then under the timeline wrench menu, choose "Save Preset". Provide a useful name and if desired, set a keyboard shortcut. You can save up to 10 of these track height presets and recall them via the wrench menu or a keyboard shortcut..
