Adobe Premiere Pro Animatics functionalities request
That post is a follow up of the questions I asked to Karle Soule and Van Bediant on a recent Keycode Media PP event.
Animation is a market that is getting bigger and bigger every year, and a lot of people uses premiere for Animatics and Offline. But you do have to do a bit of workaround as PP is not designed to be Animatics friendly (around 1200 jpegs on a timeline for a 11min ep), and this is why you are in competition with Storyboard Pro for Animatics, as some studio move to Premiere just for the HD/final render part.
I believe you guys could build some features that would be beneficial to us and would make a lot of Animation companies switch to PP for the full life cycle of an Episode. I am conscious that some of the features might be possible by ingesting psds in PP but PP is prone to crash when you have 1000 psds on the timeline and a lot of studios work with jpeg receive from storyboard artists.
Here is a list of features that would be useful:
1/The main thing we would need is some basic drawing functions. At the minute our timelines are full of masks to re-use a portion of a mouth, body etc. One thing that would be cool would be a layer of drawing that would seat on top of the track and would be exportable in PSD for future tweaks by a storyboard revisionnist. The tool would be able to contain some layers. The exported PSD would contain the panels that are on the timeline plus the layers of drawing.
2/A more complicated one but with the progress of AI in PS PP and AFX it might be possible. for static shots with static BG that would be amazing if one tool could separate the BG and the characters. And if the camera moves slowly still a photomerge function might be able to re-create the BG.
3/ Shot naming: I think it would be beneficial for many other business, but the ability to create shotnames quickly (like in The Foundry Nuke studio for example).
I am available if you need any other informations about the Animatics process in PP.

As the majority of Storyboard Artists are split between SBP & Photoshop; it would be great to have a greater level of compatibility with the SBP Projects that our Artists & Revisionists supply to Edit.

A proper drawing or mark-up tool that you can use to draw with over the panels/images would be highly beneficial.
Better communication with Toonboom/Storyboard Pro to make a seamless transition from one application to another. Some way to make the AAF translation less cumbersome between the two applications, especially when it comes to naming conventions.
More precise control of matte key points ,with the ability to zoom in more than 400%.
