Captions should have an option for either one line or two lines
For the last few weeks when I imported an SRT file the captions were on one line which was so much easier to work with. Now for some reason when I import it's back to 2 lines with a paragraph space in the middle. The split feature does not split my caption into lines, but splits it into 3 separate duplicates of the 3 lines, which is absolutely useless and hassle. Even when I remove the carriage return it still duplicates 3x.

Hi Hannah! The merge and split commands are operations for making changes to the caption track items. You can split one caption into two on the track. This will create duplicates that you then can edit. Or you can merge two caption track items into one, which will add the text of the second caption into the first one.
In order to understand the issue with the lines and the paragraph please attach a screen recording or screen shots illustrating the issue a bit more. Is the font size maybe so large that you are seeing two lines instead of one? If you click on the caption text in the Program Monitor with the selection (arrow) tool and expand the width of the text box, does that solve the problem?
