SUPER Tools bar (i.e. a Tools window that can contain ALL of your favorite items!)
Pr's Tools window is of little help to anyone who uses much faster keyboard shortcuts to access their tools. Why not supercharge the lowly tools bar so that it can contain all of a user's favorite items?! (audio/video clips, titles, transitions, effect presets, etc.)
For all of the details, please see illustrations. Final Cut Pro 7 had something similar to what I suggest but it was far more limited.
To make this tool even more incredibly user friendly, users could choose to enable tool bar shortcuts. Doing so would display tiny numbers 0-9 in the top right corner of the first 10 positions/slots of the bar. Any items stored in these slots would become accessible through the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl (or other modifier of user's choice) + the corresponding number. In the case of media stored in the tools bar (video, audio, title), pressing its corresponding shortcut would make it appear in the Timeline at the playhead on the first enabled video and/or audio track that's empty (to avoid overwriting existing media). For a current real world example of how these keyboard shortcuts could work, please see the brilliant FX Console plugin for AE: https://www.videocopilot.net/blog/2018/05/fx-console-updated-to-v1-0-3/
While I suggest that the existing tools bar be repurposed, all of this functionality could also be added to an entirely new tools bar, while leaving the exiting tools bar alone. Either way, users would surely love having this kind of convenience added to their daily workflow!
A Super Tools bar would be an amazing addition to Pr since it would put all of a user's favorite items within easy reach, all while using minimal screen real estate!
Just want to add that in addition to being able to pin everything already mentioned, users should also be able to pin a drop down menu for their workspaces, as well as pin their favorite workspaces directly in the tools bar so that they can be accessed in a single click!
Users should be given the option to add text to items in the Super Tools bar in TWO different ways:
1. Add identifying text to an item that will be visible in the bar itself (perhaps up to a maximum of 6-10 characters)
2. Add text to a tooltip that pops up after hovering over an item for a half second or so. This would allow users to write a much more detailed description (perhaps up to 50-150 characters) to remember or to instruct other fellow editors on what a certain color, clip, soundfx or title is for!
3 votes? This only goes to show how broken and pointless the voting system on User Voice is, given that this is a FR that would help ALL editors, not just a select group of editors that need a certain specialty feature.
