WHY DON'T YOU ACTUALLY RE-WRITE 'PROJECT MANAGER'?
Ok, so as long as I'm waiting for your ****-poor excuse of a Project Manager to either collect and copy, or transcode with handles, my 90 second project, allow me to excoriate you for it's terrible implementation.
1) in collect and copy mode, your so-called "software" INSISTS on re-writing an entire 45 gigabyte MXF file. I've used 2 seconds of said file, I DO NOT NEED THE WHOLE FILE. Why can't collect and copy mode do file trimming like transcode?
2) OK, so i thought I'd speed things along by transcoding everything to ProRes, because at least there I can shorten clips by specifying a "handle", and have PM only create the pieces I need. Great idea...it's been writing files for 25 minutes now. Not sure what it's doing. AN UPDATING PROGRESS BAR, WITH CURRENT 'FILE PROCESSING' INFO, WOULD BE A NICE THING TO HAVE, if only to take my mind off the fact that your crummy software is making me anxious that I'm gonna miss my deadline.
Oh, yes, there's more. I'm ACTUALLY transcoding this sequence in two parts...part two seems to be working fine (if slow as molasses in January in Boston). Part one...well, I'm doing it in two parts because SOME file in part 1 is causing THIS ABSOLUTELY STUPID ERROR MESSAGE TO OCCUR: (see screenshot attached).
So, in addition to simply improving this to the point of usability, perhaps A LOG FILE, SHOWING PROGRESS IN ENCODING/OUTPUT, would assist me in finding the offending file so I could either fix, replace, or shitcan.
Jeez, Premiere Pro is SOOOOO GOOD. Most of the time.
And like Mae West, when it's bad, IT SUCKS.
