My old laptop was replaced in 2020 with a new one. I work for the federal government, so it is a standard Dell Precision 7740, 64GB RAM, with Intel UHD Graphics 630, NVIDIA Quadro RTX 4000. I work regularly with Adobe Premiere Pro. This particular laptop has been terrible, so when I started having trouble with Premiere Pro, I naturally assumed it was my laptop that was the problem. But having visited some of the online Adobe chats, and having spent a couple of hours troubleshooting with our IT helpdesk, I am sure it is not my computer, but the Premiere program itself.
The trouble started with a particular project file. The original file was fine. I copied it and began making substantial adjustments with new footage. As I worked, the program suddenly froze, the fan on my laptop began screaming, and I could do nothing. In the Task manager, I saw CPU use increase to 30-50%; and Memory shot up to 99%. If I walk away for 15 or 20 minutes, the program unseizes; but I am often unable to continue working, as it may seize immediately and repeatedly.
I see this has been an issue for over a year now. What is the solution?
