Give us unified file names AND custom color labels in the Timeline (i.e. fix Project Settings checkbox)
The current "Display the project item name and label color for all instances" option in the Project Settings window is of extremely limited use to editors since it only allows users to turn the option on or off for BOTH item names and label colors at the same time.
This makes it impossible to rename clips/subclips/nests in the Project window and have the new names automatically propagate to all Sequence instances IF the user also wants to identify items in the Timeline with custom color labels. A single checkbox to control 2 different options at once in an "all or nothing" approach makes no sense whatsoever!
Thankfully, the solution is simple!
Give users 2 checkboxes instead of just one: one for label color, and another one for item name. (see illustration)
This would make it possible to propagate clip renames in the Project window to all instances in the Timeline, and vice versa, without losing any custom color labels added to clips in the Timeline!
This is one of those obscure fixes few, if any, people ever ask for because it's so hidden. Yet, hopefully the logic and benefit of fixing it is self-evident enough to warrant a prompt fix!
As always, thank you for listening!

Hi Erik and Eric, if you want to see this implemented, make sure to comment here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-beta/discuss-new-way-to-control-how-label-colors-and-clip-names-are-displayed-in-the-timeline/m-p/11940375/thread-id/2844?fbclid=IwAR1UlHFRnUgu6CHT-_gHXaVD02ShRZyvOkeO3H-nWdqIawzmSe6GIqAO0a8.
Adobe updated this feature in Pr 15.2 (beta) but didn't actually fix the underlying problem I point out in my FR.
