Set a custom thumbnail preview for videos
It is very surprising that Adobe has not made a custom video thumbnail option standard in Premiere pro.
It should at the very least be the first frame not a random spot in the video. This is very disappointing and an obvious over sight.
Specifically, which ‘video thumbnails’ do you mean?

It would help if APIs recognized whether or not the video file had a thumbnail preview or the first frame. Very frustrating to post a video to Instagram and have the thumbnail be some random frame from the video.. I know you can choose a cover photo manually, but as a content creator that manages several accounts across several platforms, this entire situation with video thumbnails is a complete clusterfuck.

This is such an oversight it is beyond words. I have wasted over two hours on this. 3 of 4 videos it chose the 1st frame as the poster and the 4th video, no matter what i do is some random frame after the intro title. So frustrating. In the icon view of project panel in the right mouse menu there is a SET POSTER yet when i go to the help menu and type SET POSTER it comes up snake eyes. Please fix.

@Admin They're talking about when you create a video in Premiere Pro the thumbnail (preview pic) saved on your computer will be a random spot in the video that cannot be changed. Therefore when sharing the file with clients it can often look messy or unprofessional.
When you send the video on a messaging app like WhatsApp it will choose the first frame as the thumbnail, so then it's a different one from the one you see on your PC.
I believe telegram is the same, the thumbnail is the first frame.
But if I sent the file via email then I would not have a choice of the display picture shown when it is sent to the client as I have no control over the thumbnail chosen.
I hope this clarifies the issue. I also agree, for a "professional software" this seems like something that we as the creators really should have some control over.

I would like to be able to designate the 'cover' thumbnail for a video.
As stated by a user below, it would be helpful if the first frame is the default cover thumbnail.
Thank you. Janet Mueller

I want my thumbnails to display the front of our products not a random snapshot of the side or back.
I want the thumbnails of all of my videos to also be consistent not all different.
This is messy.

When you create and export a video, I would expect that the thumbnail that is displayed on my computer would have either the first frame of the video or a custom selection, not a random snapshot.
I realize that different platforms change the preview thumbnail but I want my video preview to view correctly when I share with clients as well. Why isn't this standard?
