This is kind of complicated. For example: I have a multiple Wav File with 5 channels: 1+2 are the Stereo Mix, 3 the boom, 3+4 Lavalier Mics. So normally I would add all five into the Timeline, I would delete or mute 1+2. But If I just want one piece from one channel, I need to insert all five, I have to delete four of them, and so one. I would love to deselect audio channels directly in the source monitor so I would just bring one or maybe three of the five channels into the timeline. Funny behaviour when deselecting channels in the channel settings of the clips (attached picture). Then I see just one track in the source but when adding it into the timeline I get five channels, four of them muted of course. Not what I expected and really wasting time at least for my kind of workflow .
