OMG WILLYA FIX THE METADATA DISPLAY SO IT'S USEFUL?
Ya know, your product is so awesome that when a piece of it THIS BAD shows up I ALMOST feel bad for complaining.
But for the Bin "metadata display", I'll make an exception.
This is one of the WORST aspects of Premiere. Why? Because it simply is a pain in the **** to use, and it doesn't work properly. Here's how to fix it.
1) WHY is the metadata display tied to the Project? That is, I just changed one of my custom metadata display settings in a project. I opened up another project, selected that display - NONE of the changes I made during my time in the previous project were there. this is not unusual (for instance, Workspace settings are also tied to the project), BUT IT IS WRONG. Settings like metadata display and Workspaces are USER settings, NOT project settings. I want to see my metadata displayed, as I want it displayed, across EVERY project I work on. Avid figured this out years ago. This needs to change.
2) the process of selecting a Metadata display is ridiculous. Right-click on the bin header, click Metadata Display, go into a little menu, select your custom preset, hit OK. RIDICULOUS! When I right-click the bin header, I want every metadata preset I have to show up in a little drop down, with the last item in the drop-down being "Customize" - and THAT would take you to the customization interface.
Instead of wasting time designing something ("Freeform View") so editors can mess up bins with different-sized icons arranged all higgeddy-piggedy, why not fix something the average, list-oriented editor can actually use? FIX THE METADATA DISPLAY DIALOG.
