Ctrl+scroll wheel resizing of icons in Project window and Image in Source/Program monitors
The Ctrl + mouse scroll wheel combination is commonly used for changing the size of things: icons on a Windows 10 desktop, text & elements in a browser, as well as for cycling through viewing modes in any Windows 10 folder.
It would be wonderful if the same combo could also be used to change the size of things in Premiere:
PROJECT WINDOW: Icons in Premiere's Project window could be resized as follows:
Ctrl+Scroll wheel up: List view (min icon size) > Icons increase to max size > auto switch to Icon view (min Icon size) > Icon increase to max size
Ctrl+Scroll wheel down:
Icon view (max icon size) > Icons decrease to min size > auto switch to List view (max icon size) > Icons decrease to min size
The ability to resize and even change viewing modes by using Ctrl+Scroll wheel while hovering anywhere over a Project window panel would be much faster than having to mouse over the tiny 'List view', 'Icon view' and size bar GUI elements!
Users can currently map keyboard shortcuts to 'Zoom Monitor In/Out' on both the Source and Program Monitors. This is quite handy, but the image only zooms in/out from the center. Allowing users to dynamically zoom into any portion of the image using Ctrl+Scroll wheel would be far more user friendly and 'discoverable'. For example, if a user wants to zoom into the top left corner of their Program Monitor to adjust a mask with more precision, all they would need to do is Ctrl+turn mouse Scroll wheel up while hovering their cursor over the area they wish to zoom into! NOTE: This is exactly how it works in Photoshop and Illustrator, although in those programs the combination is Alt+scroll wheel.
Whether the Premiere team decides to give us Ctrl+scroll wheel resizing to make it consistent with the way Windows 10 works, Alt+scroll wheel to keep it consistent with other Adobe programs, or even give us both to make the feature even more discoverable, I think a lot of your users would love this new option!
As always, thanks for listening!
Note: while it's currently possible to use the Alt keyboard modifier to zoom in/out of the Timeline with the scroll wheel, this functionality is broken since the zooming does not center on the playhead, as it does if using keyboard shortcuts for zoom in, zoom out. Please see this FR regarding this bug: https://adobe-video.uservoice.com/forums/911233-premiere-pro/suggestions/37425031-requesting-that-the-mouse-wheel-will-zoom-in-on-th.
For the sake of consistency, should the Ctrl key modifier be selected by Adobe for zooming everywhere else, it would be nice for users to be able to set zooming in the Timeline to the same modifier (while changing the Alt modifier from zooming to scrolling).
This FR is closely related to this one, which contain a diagram of functionality:
Please take a look at that FR as well.
I'd like to add that Ctrl+scroll wheel zooming could also be used in:
-The EG window to change the size of thumbnails
-The Effect Controls Window, to zoom in/out of the of its Timeline view (for even more functionality here, an additional modifier, such as Ctrl+Shift+scroll could allow users to zoom outside the bounds of the clip by temporarily ignoring ‘Pin to Clip’!)
