extend nearest edit on selected tracks to playhead
I very much like the way one can currently click on an edit point anywhere on the timeline without the playhead moving to that point and then press the 'extend' key command to have the selected edit point extend to the playhead position. I mention how much I like the existing implementation because I really hate that you can't do that on Avid where selecting an edit point automatically moves the playhead to that point.
However, there is something in the way Avid gets around this limitation that would be good to see implemented in Premiere as an EXTRA feature on top of the already great existing method.
On Avid, you can be playing back on the timeline and then realise that actually, you'd like to change the cut point between two clips from where it currently is. You can do this quickly by pausing at the point you just decided would have been better and then pressing the extend key causing the nearest edit point to stretch to the playhead position, filling empty space or overwriting existing clips. If you want the incoming edit point to extend from the head to the current playhead position, you set an in point and hit extend, or if you want the outgoing clip's edit point brought forward you place an out point and hit extend. This manner of operation is sometimes better, particularly when playing an edit from the top and reviewing if you need to make tweaks as it's all keyboard based and doesn't require you to position a cursor over specific edit points. You just stop when you realise a cut point needs adjusting and extend everything to where it needs to be. It's particularly efficient if you use the keyboard numbers row to toggle different target tracks.
