Control over cloud sync and saving preferences plus saving iterations of saved settings
I am a commercial producer that shoots and edits video on a daily basis.
I want to be able to see my preferences in the cloud. I want to be able to verify that they actually have been saved. There should a folder somewhere where ALL your apps that can save to the cloud save their preferences sorted by product name in folders for each individual product. Those saves should be named something that a user can understand, something like "premiere-computername-date.preffs" in a folder called "Premiere Pro Sync." I do not want to see files named "ddd3456ggth-khjgzds556sadk9898-iusdHJF786678dsfhidsjhojfdohjio.preffs" Nonsensical file names are NOT user friendly.
I want to be able to set how many versions of settings I am able to save. Really 5 is enough for me. But I need to be able to go back to previous settings when things get screwed up. They should be sorted by date and saved so the latest save clears out the oldest version. BUT I want to be able to mark 1 save as permanent that can be my baseline that is never deleted unless I say to do so. This is the fallback save that I can go back to if all else fails.
I want to be able to sync multiple computers with the same application so I can maintain preferences on a computer by computer basis. Let me name the computer myself, and that ties into the "computername" part of the saved preferences file listed above. the default should be the actual computer name for those that do not use multiple computers. Plus that default should work for most users as computers usually have different names. BUT allowing me to set the name is very helpful.
For example, on 3 computers I can save preferences like this:
3 computer that I have named: Laptop, Work, Home as this covers all the computers I use. And yes I know I am only allowed 2 activations, I manage that myself elsewhere.
So when I sync to the cloud I select the computer name before I sync. Then I select to upload or download data. Having multiple iterations of saves allows for mistakes if I save to the wrong computer name.
When downloading preferences a window should warn me if the computer does not match. This is the safety net to keep me from making a mistake.
Your apps save ALL my preferences and settings. EVERYTHING. Since this is on a per computer basis scratch disks, media cache, and playback devices are ALL saved as well. Give me a checkbox as things save that says save everything if you want to.
The idea here is that since Premiere preferences get screwed up an a regular basis and preferences often do not save correctly to or from the cloud I want to be able to manage this process. This also gives me flexibility to manage multiple computers.
I also need to be able to trash preferences and restore them ALL quickly. The bottom line here is that since this is such a regular problem with Premiere the need to do this seems to happen only when I am on a tight deadline and do not have the time to fuss about with making sure things are actually restored to EXACTLY what I NEED them to be. I should be able to to trash and restore preferences in as little time as possible- 5 minutes or less. And that should be a 100% reliable process.
