Fix the text tool
Sometimes, when trying to add a text with the new 'Essential CRAPhics' tool, it just doesn't work.
The red text box appears for half a second and just disappears. Typing results in whatever the keyboard shortcut for that letter does. It is not possible to edit an existing text or change its settings (size, position, font, etc) since the panel goes in nothing-selected-mode.
Rebooting doesn't help, nor resetting the preferences. You can only hope to be in a good day.

A year and a half after my first post... still buggy. I look like a clown when working in front of a client and this happens.
Switching to a workspace on one screen only seems to be a temporary workaround but because of the laggy UI, it's such a waste of time.I had already noticed that the Reference Monitor panel was (partially) to blame here but since then I've removed this panel from my custom workspace and the bug is still there.
Oh! And my nVidia drivers are up to date with the "Creator drivers" or whatever they call it. -

Please look on my other post here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro/unable-to-edit-text-in-a-text-layer/m-p/11549850?page=1#M307000
Here is what I wrote there:
"HiI think that it has nothing to do with graphics driver or reseting workspace or something like this.
Because I had the same problem and then I was loading a standard workspace and then loading my workspace again - with no effect.
Then I load a standard workspace again where text editing was working and recreated my own workspace from scratch again.
But unfortunately when I was finished with my workspace the same problem was appearing again.
Then I found out that after opening the "Reference Monitor" the problem was appearing!
The problem was, that on this monitor unter the tool wrench icon, neither "Video" nor "Alpha" was selected in the menu!
After selecting one of the two, everything was working correctly again!
After selecting Video or Alpha it is not possible to deselect this selection again - in other words, as soon as you choose one of the two, it is not possible to choose neither of the two again.
For me, this is clearly a bug, because it should be selected Video or Alpha as standard and it should not happen that nothing is selected."

Hi Phil,
That is a bummer and not cool for a modern gentleman as yourself! Is there any chance that a different panel, like the Libraries panel, is loading when this happens? Are there any floating panels that are trying to pull focus from the current action happening on the main monitor?
Lastly, would you be willing to send me a sample project so I can get a sense of your workspace layout?
Thanks for the new info. Hopefully, we can get to the root issue soon.
Cheers,

Hi Dacia,
I've experienced this issue also, it can be a really frustrating bug! I'm on OSX Mojave 10.14.6.
In my experience the issue happens when I try to edit or type a new title using the title tool ON A SECONDARY MONITOR.
Usually I'll click on the title and it will seem to be working, and then a few letters into typing it will forget I'm typing and think I'm using keyboard shortcuts, leading to the title not being finished and things going crazy as I type a long string of shortcuts and thoroughly mess up my timeline.
But the text box still looks like it's selected -- and deselecting and reselecting it doesn't fix the issue. It's like it loses focus on the text tool once you start typing. It's infuriating, honestly.
So much so that my "solution" is now to drag my program monitor onto my main screen whenever I have to type a title. Then it usually is fine -- I type my title out, and drag the window back over to my external monitor like some sort of cave man haha.
PLEASE respond and figure this out and fix it!
Phil

Hi
I think this is because of this that I was writing here right now:
https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro/unable-to-edit-text-in-a-text-layer/m-p/11549850?page=1#M307000
I think it is a bug that has to be fixed. -
Hi Gregory,
That is really weird!
Would you mind sharing a screen recording when you get into this state again?
If you could also share what OS and version you're on as well that would be helpful.I'm emailing you now as well if its easier to send a screen recording from there instead.
Sorry the text tool is giving you headaches.
Cheers,
Dacia
