Dynamic link live text broken in 14.0.1
The update to PPro 14.0.1 has broken the ability to edit live text in dynamically linked AE clips within Premiere. Video of the bug attached.

Hi Y’all!
I’ve been sitting on the news of this fix with bated breath for what feels like an eternity. We’ve gone live with the latest release of Premiere Pro version 14.0.2 and Live Text Template workflows are back in action!
Apologies for the disruption in your workflows and thanks so much for your patience!

This is not fixed at all so should not be listed as 'Resolved'.
We still have no usage of our dynamic linked AE templates. The only way for us to use our straps, classifications, and bugs is to roll back to Premiere CC 14.0 and Ae CC 17.0. I have tried with multiple combinations of the CC 2020 updates and only the base versions work. It is still broken up to and including Premiere 14.0.4 and AE 17.0.5.
As seen in other posts we get several intermittent issues:
- 'media pending' screen on many linked files, but not all.
- The editable text tab on some links disappears completely.
- Editable text tab appears but once something is changed it is not updated in timeline but just disappears.
- In AE I also sometimes get the 'Unexpected Data Type' error. This is an integral feature for us that's worked for years but now is suddenly broken, and the only workaround is to use the non-bug fixed 2020 version so we can never update now.
Please actually fix this issue.

Thats so awesome to hear Matt!!!

Live Text now working with the update to PPro 14.0.2. Thanks for the help, Dacia. And while it's great to have dynamic link live text working again, I think I'm going to stick with the .mogrt workflow!

I'm also having this issue. I had to downgrade AE 17.0 and PP 14.0 to make them work again.

Having the same issue here, very annoying as we have lots of templates that work with dynamic link, we have to go back into the AE project and convert into MOGRT, it's a workaround but definitely not a satisfactory fix to this issue,
PLEASE fix it asap, it's hurting our work.

Mark,
You can get your projects back on track if you try Dacia's suggestion of turning your AE comps into .mogrt files.Open AE, right-click the comp you normally edit in Premiere, select "open in Essential Graphics", then from the comp timeline drag the parameters you want to be able to edit in PPro up to the Essential Graphics panel. Once done, from that same panel export the .mogrt and save to your library. Now in the Essential Graphics panel in Premiere you will be able to drag the mogrt down to your timeline as a clip and edit as required.
Apologies if you already knew this workflow. I'm just excited because not only has it got my projects going forward again, but it's smoother in Premiere and more easily shareable to my wider team members that use the same template graphics.

I'm experiencing the same issue across multiple projects. I'm currently running Premiere Pro 14.0.1, build 71. This has put most of my projects on hold until this is fixed. Just as the original poster showed in his video (great job showing the problem, Matt!).

Same here. Dynamic Linking does not work in V14.0.1 update. Altering texts just leaves blank space. Only solution at this point seems to be downgrading to previous version.

I'm also having this exact issue. Thank you to the original poster!

We have a lot of clients and create branding toolkits for them, today we do it with mogrts but half of our clients won't generate the budget to step to mogrts because the Live text template we created for them before mogrts work fine for them. Or at least they used too.
This is a serious issue and needs to be solved ASAP.
We've downgraded to Pr 14.0.0 which seems to be working fine with Ae 17.0.1.

@Cameron Warn,
Apologies again for the new hurdle in your workflow. The issue was introduced in 14.0.1 so if you can roll back to 14.0.0 you should be back in business until the next update.

Hi Matt!
Thats really weird. I'd need to investigate the Mogrt itself to troubleshoot though. I'm emailing you now so hopefully we can get you back on track sooner than later. 🙂

Hi Dacia,
Thanks for your reply and the good news that it's a recognized bug that's being addressed.
I'm taking the opportunity to follow your suggestion and use my AE templates within the Essential Graphics panel. However, I'm experiencing a problem with that workflow which is making it unusable.
I've documented the problem here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro/essential-graphics-template-colors-changing/td-p/10883486?page=1
If you have a moment to take a look I would be most appreciative.
Many thanks,

I definitely second this as a serous bug that needs an urgent fix.
We have the same issues as the original poster, the info appears as though it can be edited, but the second you make a change the text, and also for us, class symbols (that change based on a number input) disappear. Once it has disappeared it is not possible to bring it back even if re-inputting the original information.
I initially re-built the CC2020 premiere projects with CC2020 AE project links, but found nothing worked anymore. I then tried building it again in CC2019 (as we were on CC2018) hoping the upgrade from CC2019 to CC2020 would be ok, but again no luck.
We use dynamic linked AE projects on a daily basis for straps, bugs, classification and copyright info, so this is a major problem for us. I've been using AE linked template projects for five years with no issues so was a bit stunned to find it completely broken in the new software.
Please fix this ASAP, as losing this core functionality is a bit difficult to deal with.

Hi Matt,
We had an unplanned version bump in our Dynamic Link versioning and its made the latest AE 17.0.2 (which feeds the Dynamic Link render) become a bit of a pest when working with 14.0.1 PR.
Looks like AE 17.0 and PR 14.0 are still playing nice together though. Installing those versions is one workaround if that's a possibility. In the meantime, we have another workflow that we've been building out over the last few years called Motion Graphics Templates. You can add the Source Text from the comps that you've alreadt made to the Essential Graphics Panel (among other parameters) and then Export it as a Mogrt.
The parameters you add to EGP in AE is what you'll be able to change and tweak on the PR side.Once you're in PR you drag and drop the Mogrt from Premiere's Essential Graphics Panel and you can change text there.
https://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/using/creating-motion-graphics-templates.html
Apologies again for the hurdles in your workflow because of this. Hopefully you can get back on track with one of the workarounds above.
I'll update this thread as soon as I can share some news about a fix.
Cheers,

This took me nearly 2 hours to figure out. Dynamic links weren't loading. AE kept giving me error "Unexpected Data Type." Did all the steps of clearing cache, clearing preferences, uninstalling, reinstalling, reinstalling plugins etc etc etc.
Nice bug fix update Adobe >_<. Squish one and create three more!
Please restore this feature ASAP, we can't wait 12 weeks for every patch!
