project manager bug - premiere 2020
In adobe premiere 2020, when I want to export project via project manager, from the source file which I have made several cuts (in & out) in the source monitor panel and drag it in bin, adobe premiere 2020 makes copy of source file as many as cuts I had made. For example, if I had cut a 1gb film into 3 parts it copies the file 3 times and the exported file size turns into 3gb. However in adobe premiere 2018, it only copies source file once and does not make several copy of it.

WTF - I am trying to consolidate and deliver a simple project the Trancode folder keeps dissappearing???

Adobe shame on you and a curse on all of you for this bug!

There is a plugin called PlumePack for "Collect & Copy" a project, it does the same job than the project manager but without bugs and it supports more Premiere Pro elements.
There is not this problem with several cuts in the source monitor.
You can can also trim your files: the unused frames in your timeline(s) are removed from the footage while keeping the same codec and quality!

Having problems with consolidate and transcode as well.
1. Transcoded folder is created. Clips inside the folder seem to playback without any issues. With the exception of the .prproj file.
2. When you hit ok after the project manager error pops up the Transcoded folder disappears.
3. You can copy the contents of the Transcoded folder in another folder. However some clips will not copy over and generate an OS error code -36.
4. Am able to duplicate the problem on 3 machines and on several different projects
Mac Pro (Late 2013)
2.7 GHZ 12 core intel Xeon E5
64 GB 1866 MHz DDR3
AMD FirePro D700 6144
All connected via fibre optic to a Quantum server with 1 PB storage.

I have been dealing with this issue to create a delivery requirement archive version of a doc feature with only the used media. Many anomalies and inexcusable bugs but I did figure out one useful detail. Before you media manage the master sequence you need to create a new “fresh” sequence and then copy and paste the used clips into it from the master timeline. This seemed to clean up all the stray un-used media from being copied...otherwise all sorts of things get cloned across. If you have to rigorously check this to be sure it is correct then it is an epic failure. Also, why can’t there be automatic relinking to clips at the new location if you want that...nope not possible. This is a monumental time suck and brutally inefficient. All the more maddening when you know under the hood the software must have the data to do this efficiently but the code to enable this process is obviously not written robustly. It can take days to do something that really should be 2 to 4 hours of work...isn’t that cool when we all have so much extra time built into our post schedules.

How about y'all address this project manager bug - in premiere 2020? Let me guess y'all are busy creating the 2021 version. How about you perfect a version before moving on? I have a feature indy film that needs management to send out to a post-production sound and color house and I have spent 40-60 hours trying to get the project media managed and come up with the same error, as everyone in this thread, after waiting 2-4 hours for it to fail and then the not so helpful error message tells me zero about where or how to fix the error. RESOLVE is looking better and better everyday, pay once instead of indentured servitude to Adobe's monthly sub-par subscription. How about you put a pin in this and make it happen like now, before my first film festival in 2021.
Signed a frustrated and very exhausted independent documentary filmmaker. Adobe, keeping 2020 the dumpster fire that it is all the way to 2021.

I am having consistent problems with project manager / media managing, i've tried on different systems and different projects. I either encounter freezing, crashing, or on rare occasions when it actually works-- a giant media manage folder that contains additional media from what was in the sequence. it's strange and spooky honestly.
Right now i am testing media managing a sequence with 1 clip, all boxes are unchecked, no special characters in any file names / folder structure, and premiere is choking-- just freezes up in the status bar. one clip!!
I'm at a loss here-- This is vital to our workflow, especially during these remote workflow times. Adobe-- please help!!

I am having the same problem. I have unticked every box except "Exclude unused clips", tried to save to the same external drive as the film project and footage, tried to save to the desktop on my mac, tried to save to a separate external hard drive, nothing works. Mine is a simple project with now .braw files. All clips are .mov files.I have restarted the computer, the application holding down the option key to reset the preferences, but still get the error.

I'm experiencing this same problem - "unknown error" whenever I try to copy a project using the Project Manager. The only work around that seems to work is to re-boot - After a re-boot, I can then copy/consolidate one sequence - but that's it, I have to re-boot each time I need to use the Project manager. Really frustrating as this seems to have worked a few weeks ago, but two weeks later I can't get past the error. See screen shot.

Trent Happel - Is there any movement in Adobe on fixing these issues with Media Manager "Project Manager isn't working correctly in Premiere 2020. Have tried it with several different projects and I get an "unknown error" message repeatedly. Is this a known bug that you are working to resolve? Please advise. "

This problem has not yet been resolved. It has been a very long time since this was reported and this consolidation process is an essential step in almost every professional production's post workflow.
The time this has cost my company is now worth more money than we pay for our adobe subscriptions.

I'm having the same problem, "unknown error" while trying to export on project manager on timeline for a spot for a major brand to color grade in resolve. I've been trying for 6 hours, every possible work around, I do not understand your in/out points workaround Trent Happel, can this be done on an existing timeline?
This is not pro-grade software to have something so integral to basic post-production house workflow not working when you release an update. You need to either have color grading on par with resolve in the software or make sure your software plays nice and round-trips well with resolve when you do releases because literally every post-house and ad agency I've worked at does final color in resolve after editing in premiere.
I see that this "issue" was submitted for investigation over a month ago and this is still going on?

Thank your reporting this. This issue has been reproduced and has been submitted for investigation.
Until this is fixed, a possible workaround is to not drag the In/Out sections to the Project panel. Instead, set your In/Out in the Source Monitor and drag that to the Timeline Sequence (does not create additional instances in Project panel). I tried this and it created only one copied file after running Collect Files and Copy to New Location in the Project Manager.
I know it does not help you for your existing Projects and may differ from your desired workflow, but might help going forward until this issue can be addressed.
