Need HIDE Guides or TOGGLE Guides
Love Guides in the Program monitor, but when I create a set and I hit Clear Guides-- it's gone. You have no toggle for Guides. Or a Hide Guides option. (Toggle is best.)
Best, as always,
Q: Why doesn't the Show Guides toggle key shortcut work globally, no matter what pane is active, on the Program monitor, where Guides live?
A: The short answer is because that's how shortcuts work in Pr. Either it is a global shortcut, or it has to be coded into each panel that wants to support it. It is a reasonable feature request that we add support for the shortcuts to the Timeline. I can get that submitted for you.
Thanks for explaining your workflow. I understand that you use the Timeline to select the clip you want to move, but don't you then have to go to the Program Mon to move it toward a guide anyways. It's either that or changing hot text in the ECP or EGP, right? And the latter would not let you snap to guides anyways. Or, if you really don't want to click into the PM a lot, try using the Keyboards Shortcuts for ProgramMonitor focus, which is Shift + 4, or you can map your own.
Thank you for your feedback. A lot of shortcuts don't work globally because if they all did there would be a lot of collision. There are a couple of shortcuts that you should know about when using guides:
(1) [Cmd/Ctrl + ; ] this is the default keyboard shortcut for turning Show Guides on and off. You can also map your own shortcut in the KBS dialog.
(2) Program Mon > Button Editor has buttons for Show Rulers and Show Guides that you can add to the Program Monitor controls
I realize that neither of these offer the global access you're asking for, but they'l at least save you time of going into the View menu each time. Just hit the the Show Guides shortcut each time you go into the Program Mon, which you have to do to directly move your selected clip around anyways.

Yes, you can toggle guides once you activate the Program monitor-- but that's not where I work, that's my reference. I need to invoke Guides while the TIMELINE is active-- because that's where I select a clip to align to Guides. Leaving the sequence, going up to the Program monitor to activate it, then invoking Show Guides from the View menu to toggle it, gets old quick! Why doesn't the Show Guides toggle key shortcut work globally, no matter what pane is active, on the Program monitor, where Guides live?
I hope that better explains it.
Best, as always,
