If you don't intend to support a common video format: offer built-in conversion to an editing-friendly format
I understand that some formats don't lend well to editing, but I'm bothered by having to seek out dodgy free internet apps to do a conversion because this premium software can't.

Adobe already offers DNx, Cineform and ProRes for conversion. You can't get any better.

You could use Ingest to convert your files to a common edit-friendly format. Go to File menu > Project Settings > Ingest Settings. Check Ingest checkbox and set to Transcode. Pick from one of the supplied Presets or create your own. Import your media and they will automatically be transcoded to your chosen settings. Proxies may also work for you.
More information on Ingest and Proxies can be found at:https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/kb/ingest-proxy-workflow-premiere-pro-cc-2015.html
Hope this helps.
