How about making the result of Command-C conditional to the last action taken by the user?

If it was selecting a clip, copy that clip. If it was setting an In/Out point, copy that range.

This would make things more intuitive. Frustrating to set in and out point hit Cmd-C, and find out upon pasting, that the software has copied something completely different based on a previous forgotten selection.
