Deselect all tracks shortcut
Pasting a copied selection requires that all tracks are enabled (or disabled) to ensure that clips end up on the tracks they were copied from.
Even when you DO want to paste onto specific tracks PP requires you to look at the UI to determine what tracks are selected (as they can only be toggled with keystrokes)
In other NLEs it is possible to ‘deselect all timeline tracks’ with one keystroke -then toggle the tracks required on. Thus it can be done without looking at UI.
In PP* there is a ‘toggle all’ shortcut for video, and one for audio. But this means
a. You have to know current state and
b. It’s at least 2 keystrokes to toggle both either on or off.
So a shortcut for ‘deselect all timeline tracks’ and ‘select all timeline tracks’ PREFERABLY without requiring timeline to have focus please.
Bonus for the same for the source side
- Problem with using keystroke to ensure that timeline has focus is that if it already had focus it will switch to the next timeline tab, if it exists. See request for ‘Make timeline focus and next timeline tab 2 seperate shortcuts’

Sir David,
you will need to create 2 user commands,
Target All command will consist of these ones:
- "target video tracks", Target All tracks option
- "target audio tracks", Target All tracks optionun-Target All command will consist of these ones:
- "target video tracks", un-Target All tracks option
- "target audio tracks", un-Target All tracks optionhere is an explanations what is User Command:

Sir Ivan - re: Excalibur. I've purchased Excalibur based on your comment about this functionality, but can't seem to achieve it. All I seem to be able to do it assign a shortcut to a "target video tracks" (or audio tracks) menu, in which targeting all video is a selectable option. What Trevor was asking for was a single shortcut to target all video and audio tracks, and another single shortcut to untarget all video and audio tracks. Can you assist?
Thanks,
David

This 100%. For any Adobe developers reading, this is the number 1 reason I don't recommend productions use Premiere Pro over Avid, despite PP's many advantages. (For what it's worth, the only other big reason is Avid's trim mode, esp. asymmetrical trimming. Fix these two things, and I'd push for PP over Avid every time).

I do my best with toggle all video and toggle all audio but I so frequently find myself switching them to the wrong state or getting confused between the 2 and having to do it a couple of times over that I suspect I'm probably more often better off using the mouse plus shift key on track controls on the timeline. I would really love a deselect all tracks button.
I see the logic in having toggles for each, I can actually think of very few situations where that's ever what I've actually intended to do and thousands of situations every day where selecting/deselecting ALL tracks is what I wanted.
This plus the command being localised to either source/record side depending on which is active, in combination with auto-patching would be great. It's nice to cut bits of one complex sequence in to another by placing one in to the source monitor and while source is active, deselecting all source tracks and then with the number keys choosing the specific tracks you want to insert and then switching to program side and doing the same again but now pressing the numbers for the tracks you want to target and the auto patching automatically matches them together.

The other problem I have with the 'toggle' shortcuts is that they REQUIRE the source or timeline panes be selected - they do not work if program monitor is selected. These kind of keystrokes shouldn't be pane specific - they should be global.
