Vertically align Open captions text against background box.
Please make the Open Caption text properly centered vertically against the background box and add the option to adjust it's position.

We have completely redesigned the captioning workflow in Premiere Pro version 15.0. You will see many dramatic workflow improvements. Please update to the latest version.

Good to see Adobe's board continuing to under-invest in their core products while taking time out to approve $15 billion of stock buybacks through 2024. Nice.

Just adding my little yell into the void here.

text should be vertically centered and it should either be the default or an option to have the background box stay the same shape whether there are ascenders/descnders or not. As is the box will jump around for a series of captions like this, which is not the standard for subtitles on video.

Now we see
now we see badly -

2/23/21 Adobe Premiere captions still look like merde due to persistent issues mentioned eloquently in this thread. Adobe Premiere management and coders, what the **** is wrong with you?

Richard Grehan commented
this is really bad issue, making captions workflow very difficult, please fix

I have the same problem - please fix this problem - I'm having to use a 3rd party plug in to get the subtitles to look right. I have to export the captions as an .srt from premiere and then import them into another plug in - Adobe should fix this problem, I waste a lot of time fiddling with this just to get them to display properly centred on the background box....come on guys!

More than 3 years and the same problem remains. It's a certificate of a poor job.
Please, FIX it. -

Come on, guys! We're hitting 2021 already!! It also needs to be aligned horizontally! I can't use Premiere for captioning because there's this three-year bug you seem not to care about!

Yes, this is big. The captions system in Premiere needs a lot of work; It's an essential part of any Video Editor's workflow and needs to be fixed ASAP please!!

Yes, please fix this.
Captions in Premiere Pro are very buggy/kludgy.
Probably a total re-design of captions from the ground up is going to be required. They are a mess!!!
I've spent many hours farting around trying to get open captions to work properly. Restarting. Exporting/re-importing. Rebooting. Usually I can get them to work, but what an enormous waste of time.

I built a nasty workaround... nest the whole caption track. then duplicate the nested track. then lower one of the tracks behind the other so that the top of the caption box is at the base of the other nest. You can use the crop fx filter on the lower nest.
thus the text looks more centred vertically and the boxes resize according to width...
some fonts work better than others
but, better to use aftereffects

So I'm working on Open Captions again and so annoying that I can't horizontally align the captions to the background. Am I missing something or is this still not fixed? I'm eye balling it all. Put a ruler to the middle of my screen to guide me.

Andy Aronson commented
Hey Adobe, you should be ashamed of yourselves for not fixing this problem long ago.
