Make the layer controls in the Timeline scalable to increase Timeline size
When you are on a small monitor like a laptop the timeline often feels quite small. Please add the possibility to scale down the timeline layer controls to the left of the timeline. You could combine making the icons smaller and hiding some of the info - a bit like how the Audio level window to the right of the timeline scales.

This seriously needs to be a thing.
I often use 2 timelines, where one is only used for dragging clips onto and off of, which means it doesn't have to be very large.
The header always takes up literally half of the timeline window's space, and it's incredibly frustrating. -

@Johan
Right click on that panel and select "customize"
Experiment with adding, removing, and moving those elements around. I remove "track name" since it's redundant and takes up vertical space.
However, I've found no way to reduce horizontal space, even if i move or remove the mic icon. Oh sigh.
I'm just telling you about this just in case it changes later and DOES result in less wasted horizontal space. -

Well Jim sometimes you don't have the option of a big screen and why don't make that work as smooth as possible. And the layer controls area takes up a ridiculous amount of screen space, so even on a big screen I would like to scale it down. And if you like them big feel free to keep it that way.

Laptops just aren't very suitable to editing. I recommend nothing less than a 24" 1080 monitor.
