Add Guide Layer Option for Premiere Pro
Similarly to After Effects, I would like the option to turn a layer into a guide layer that doesn't render. Immensely helpful for during a review process where a client doesn't want to see a bug, but allows for proper graphic build and layout design without having to remember to turn on/off the bug layer on each review export.
Agree. When a Track is locked, there is a pattern applied. So some kind of pattern or icon would be needed.
James: "So it sounds like you are asking for a Graphic property that says 'don't render me' for specified Layer(s)?"
Yes, that's it. I lay a transparent gray box over the bottom of the sequence to remind me what area the transcriptions will obscure later on. But I have to remember to disable the eyeball before I render.
Another option I would like is to be able to Enable/Disable the eyeball on Locked layers. AE allows this. Very handy for toggling on/off the visibility of guide layers (which I normally lock).
Ok, thanks again for your feedback. We try to read and consider all the ideas that come to us from this and other forums. It helps to know what users' real-world needs are, so thank you for providing some insight into your workflow.

It's pretty much what you mentioned in your comment from 5/11/2018. To have a feature that makes a track not render in the final output even when it's visible in the program panel. Much like After Effects does with guide layers.
Guides and rulers are of no use for me in Premiere, but I use them a lot in After effects.

The added rulers and guides are great additions to Premiere, but what this thread is about is Guide Layers, similar to what After Effects has. These are visible layers that do not render in an export. Very helpful for visualizing without needing to remember to disable a layers and clips before exporting.
Thank you all for your feedback here. Would the rulers and customizable guides we added a couple versions (April 2019) ago be helpful for your workflows?
You can turn on rulers in the view menu and then you drag out guides from the rulers and right click to set specific guide locations and colors. You can also save guides and use them later in Pr or Ae.

Call it a track or a layer, but this feature would be immensely useful. Perhaps this track could have a different colour to differentiate between other layers in order to prevent accidental use.
Agree. I need to add a "subtitle guide layer" so I can tell how much space to allocate for the subtitle overlay. After Effects' Guide Layer is SO handy for screen guides like this. If you nest a comp, the guide layers also don't render.

This would be great!
We export a variety of strange formats that require on screen guides to position/resize clips in the correct areas for export.
PrPro does not really have layers in the timeline like Ae does. It has tracks, which can contain Graphics with Layers (text, shape, clips) and Adjustment Layers, which are like clips. So it sounds like you are asking for a Graphic property that says 'don't render me' for specified Layer(s)? And by "bug" you mean a digital on-screen graphic (like a watermark/logo), right?
