so u had a understanding April 26, 2018, AND ITS STILL NOT FIXED! Heres some more problems: Crashing constantly when relinking files, u can now only drag things around by double clicking on the program montor 50% of the time, great! U guys should hire a big team of bug fixers, simular to what minecraft did a way back, their almost obsessive with bug fixes. You guys are the solar opposite, do u have like one person working on these freaking bugs or what? Ur going to loose customers to other big editing software pretty soon, its been almost half a year with 2018, and theres still these really obvious bugs right in the face of all users, honestly sad. Wish i could take advantage of the new version, but its just too F***ED. Listen to ur community and fix this **** asap. How are u taking money for something that dosent work

THIS FIXED IT FOR ME! I don't know if it's gonna last but it works for now:
"For all affected, Stefan recommended File > close all projects and reopening in a forum thread about this, and it fixed it for me even though I had only one project open and had just opened it. I've seen this issue so often that I feel it will return, but this did fix it for me in this instance."

Very touch & go, and with feature projects clearing the cache (and rebuilding) takes hours - not something you can do in the middle or beginning of a shift. Which should raise the severity of the bug, because the workaround is extremely time-consuming.

I've been having the same issue and clicked File>Revert and that worked for me! When I close and reopen, the search bar is grayed out again, but reverting seems to fix it each time, so at least this is a temporary fix until its patched.

I'm on Version 12.1.1 (Build 10) and been getting this issue a lot lately. Clearing the media cache/restarting computer is very hit or miss when trying to fix this. More often than not it's a miss. The only way I've been able to get my search bar ungrayed out is by creating a brand new project, which is huge hassle as you have to re-import all your assets, re-generate audio peaks, etc. The search functionality on the Project Panel is a huge time saver compared to having to manually look through bins. A fix would be greatly appreciated!

Same problem for our workstations. Also witnessed the search bar disappear for Maxim Jago at NAB. He couldn't explain it.

Last Saturday, we almost delayed the display of a wedding movie that was edited the same day for the bride and groom, because of this bug. Please correct this problem soon, because the month is full of work! It is very difficult to work without this feature.
