It's July 3rd, and this is still not fixed. It's a search bar, Adobe. Please, someone do your job so we can do ours.

Please fix this Adobe. I have projects with hundreds of clips, and this is costing me time and ultimately money. Looks like it's time to consider different software.

This search bar issue is still here. This software has been in development since 1991. it should be perfect, and yet it is not.

Adobe we deserve an update on status now (really it should be fixed by now). It has been two months since ADMIN has weighed in. this and other bugs are why I'm starting to look into alternatives. Btw I'm hearing from folks going back to FCP too....

Ridiculous. I just downloaded a copy of PP2018. i am going back to 2017 after this project is done. too many bugs..not only this one, as mentioned with the search but i have found when it is rendering the progress bar will stop and the beach ball will come up. Oddly, it is still rendered b/c i see my drives moving along. Happens every time.

Just adding my 2 cents. Tried cache cleaning, close all projects, save as copy. Nothing worked. Still greyed out search. Really hurts when you have 3 -400 clips you are building montages from.

Thanks 'Phil D.'
your way fixed the issue,
"A workaround for this is to go to File > Save a Copy... (NOT Save As...) and save a duplicate of your project with a new name. Then with the old version of the project still open, open the copy of the project."

A workaround for this is to go to File > Save a Copy... (NOT Save As...) and save a duplicate of your project with a new name. Then with the old version of the project still open, open the copy of the project.
Usually when I do this the Search bar in the Project panel becomes functional and the old version can be closed, but it only works for a few hours or days before becoming unusable again. The other downside to this is that when you make you copy project, Premiere will reset a lot of audio clip and track effects back to default settings (the other big bug of this release which has been a huge drain on productivity).
Another workaround I've used in a pinch is to utilize the Create Smart Bin button (next to the broken Search bar), enter a search term and create a bin for what I need, and then delete the bin.
This release is kind of embarrassing, so many obvious bugs that should have been addressed before the release. The biggest issue Adobe needs to address (whether their marketing team believes it or not) is overall stability, not new features.

still not work on v12.1.1 win10, "Filter bin" greyed out in project window.
I tried the following:
- Tried to clean up cache but doesn't resolve this issue.
- create Search bin works.
- All my projects have this issue. It was working normally but somehow, it is not working now.
- Create a new project and which contain only one video file, has the same issue. -

Yes, this was a very unstable release to put into the market. The broken search bar and broken project manager seriously affect the workflow of professional editors. I'll have to revert to the previous version for the next project until this is fixed. Very annoying.

Please fix this! This is costing me lots of time, and thus money.

Same here. Very frustrating. Search box is totally unusable

This is quite a big slow-down for every project. I would give back lots of fancy new features just to have a working search box. I use it ALL THE TIME. Except right now, because it doesn't work.

I also have this problem randomly it seems.

I maintain 15 edit bays and have upgraded all PC's to PP2018 and the grayed out non functioning search bar plague is hitting them progressively. This is starting to be a big issue here as it is slowing the project work flow in a high demand environment.
