Search bins and Search bar have some bugs and unwanted behaviour
Some important options are greyed out when search bins are opened in a separate panel but available when search bins are expanded in the root panel.
Also, Search bar reveals files and their folders, selecting all will result in selecting the containing folders with everything in them including the non-filtered files. Previously, premiere used to reveal the searched for items without their inclosing folder.

Still here in 2021! This thread is also representative of the problem...

The greyed out options in search bins issue is still here in 2020. Coming up on 2 years now!
And there is obviously no inherent reason you can't enable these options for search bins, because those same options, in the same search bin, are available if you just go up one bin level. They only grey out when you are at the deepest level - but that's where you always are when in icon view, so those options are always greyed out in icon view which really sucks. Fix this already!
Search bins could be so great, but so many bugs! https://adobe-video.uservoice.com/forums/911233-premiere-pro/suggestions/36466480-premiere-pro-cc-2019-13-0-2-search-find-bin-fi

Regarding the Search Bin bug... One painful result of this issue is that you cannot assign labels to clips in a search bin in icon view. You have to be in list view and can't take advantage of those nice big icons! And you can't be all the way "in" that bin so you have to back out a level.
To reiterate: the workaround is to use list view and go up one bin level while leaving the search bin expanded. Then you can do stuff to clips like normal.

In addition to this problem there is a part where when you are in the import dialogue box and can't search for an item. When you type on search bar on top right nothing shows up.
By default the search filter is set to "All Supported Media". I have to manually go and change to png or jpeg for it to be able to search.
Basically it won't search when the filter in set to "All supported media".
