Support for ProRes RAW
Support for Apple's newest codec, ProRes RAW and ProRes RAW HQ

Hello ProRes RAW community,
as of today, you can start using ProRes RAW in Premiere Pro 14.2 (public release).
Thanks to the large group of people from this thread that helped us during the last couple of weeks in putting finishing touches on the implementation through our beta program.
More info on 14.2 is available from:

Cheers,

Pretty disappointing, really. Can't believe there's no support yet.

Any updates on PRR intergration?

+1 on an update. I just downloaded FCPX for Prores Raw support. I know a lot of people are on the verge of doing the same thing, but we'd rather stick to Premiere.

Please Adobe, can you give us an update on when you'll get a license for Prores Raw from Apple? I actually went out and bought FCPX just so I could import my Prores Raw footage from the Atomos Shogun, but I want to use Premiere Pro.

Adobe is a pretty big company, you need to get this done! Now that DJI has an agreement with Apple, there's no reason why you don't too. PRR is already included with the latest FW upgrade for DJI's Inspire 2 It won't be long before all these operators switch to FCPX. Once lost it will be harder to get them back!!! Wake up!!!

Adobe! lossy Cinema DNG is the answer! It's really not hard... BlackMagic and SlimRaw have developed compression up to 7:1 already! ***** ProRes Raw, Apple won't let you have it!

This is the point Adobe should stop bothering trying to get license to ProRes RAW and create a lossy CDNG as others have mentioned. Imagine CDNG with the ability to record 8:1. It would make ProRes RAW redundant and irrelevant in this industry overnight. Feedback I've heard from graders who are working with ProRes RAW is it's not all it's cracked up to be when it comes to the grade and that it doesn't feel like proper RAW footage when you're trying to push the grade... DNG is absolutely stunning footage to work with when it comes to grading.
Stuff ProRes RAW. Apple had their chance to win us over with it but they've only driven me further away by refusing to let it work on any program other than FC. Whether it's to do with ProRes RAW or their latest iPhone.... Apple have always been like this with their aggressive marketing tactics. Whilst most companies focus on how compatible their products are with other devices, Apple focus on making it impossible for their products to be compatible with any other devices other than other Apple products... I actually feel sorry for those who are their genuine fans, because they're literally paying twice as much as we are whilst taking it up the bum by the company they adore for substandard products... Mac's become a joke of a company since Jobs died. This ProRes RAW stunt only further underlines how useless to the industry they are. No doubt in a few years they will be struggling to survive.

I know this was a deal between Atamos and Apple but this needs to happen with full implementation - make it happen now.

We need this as quickly as possible! This really makes Final Cut have an edge over Premiere that it didn't before!

There seems to be some "exclusivity deal" between Atomos and Apple, so first 6 months from announcement no one can add ProRes RAW support. If this is true support should appear soon.

Update, please?

Thanks, Patrick -- It is the "it" codec and we must switch back to FCP if Premiere cannot support it. Please don't make us go back. thanks!

The answer is lossy CDNG with different compression ratios already mentioned here on the forums. It probably needs to be in an mxf wrapper or in a new container. I doubt Apple would just hand over the license to ProRes RAW to Adobe. I think lossy CDNG would solve a lot of issues and be a great open standard as already mentioned.

I just shoot my first job on the Prores Raw. And I must say I am amazed with the quality. As a professionel, I could not wait any longer and bought FCP. FCP handels the Prores RAW very well, smooth and the quality of the footage is mind-blowing. But I still hope that Premiere solves it with Apple cause FCP seems amateurish! I would switch back the minute they settle on an agreement with apple. Prores RAW takes up a lot of space though...!
