  1. Better support for files with closed captions

Closed captions in mxf files generated from other systems do not import into Premiere. No caption stream is present on import although captions show up in other applications. 2. Update Captions

The captions has been quite buggy for some time, trying to export it as a SRT is a real pain. The edge also isn't correct with some letters as shown in picture below. Where it almost becomes unusable...

  3. Better caption workflow using .srt Files

Create a workflow in which importing .srt Files created with a 3rd party program will work without glitches or import errors

    For example:

When I import .srt files made with YouTube and downloaded, often most of the file does not import. I imported a 5 minute srt file and only the first 2 minutes showed up.

There is an entire industry built around translators and transcribers using .srt files to give to their clients, so this is an important and much needed workflow.

  4. Improved Captions Editing

Please improve captions editing by allowing us to copy/paste, selecting and moving multiple captions at once, easily create caption clips that can be inserted in the middle of a scene, etc. The caption features in Premiere are extremely limited and it's very time consuming to get captions the way I want them, especially if I need to make an edit in the middle of my timeline and now have to move potentially move hundreds of captions one-by-one.

  5. Improve Closed Captions Functionality.

Below are some featues/ bugs and suggested improvements I've come up with.

    • If you add a new caption, you shouldn't have to go into the closed captions display settings and enable them just to see them. It should automatically show them when they are created and a pop up should appear when a conflicting caption is made.

    • There should be a warning pop up when a frame rate requirement of the caption format doesn't match the sequence settings.

    • Would be great if there were an auto caption feature.

    • Default captions should be set as "open captions"…

Please remove the spikes from letters like capital M and A when we create captions with an edge for better readability.

  7. Caption Aliasing

    Hi all,

I've now split my caption bugs into two reports. This is about the horrible edges around caption text.

Just as the title suggests, the captions have jagged, aliased edges, as opposed to smooth crisp edges. I don't get the same results when using the standard type tool, or importing PNG files, etc. This is something specially reserved for captions.

Please note that these issues occur on both Mac and PC, but I'm currently on a Windows system, so I will post the specs for this machine:

    Premiere Pro 13.1.2, build 9
    Windows 10 64-bit (1903)
    Intel i9-9900X
    64GB…

  8. Open Captions batch shift and line spacing

I NEED to be able to batch shift/move captions across the timeline. right now you can only move around one at a time. I can't believe this isn't an available feature. Please update.

Second is open caption line spacing. I can import an SRT as an Open Caption with special line spacing. But I can't adjust line spacing when creating new captions in the caption settings. This needs to be updated fast.

  9. Missing Leading option (gap between lines) on open captions

open captions have styling options such as font etc, but the default gap between the lines is too big and you still don't have the option to change this gap (leading).
Lacking that option will still make this tool irrelevant.

  10. open captions

Just confirmed with Premiere 13.1.3 that it's still not possible to export a sequence with open captions using Encoder if there are any dynamically linked AE clips in the sequence you're trying to export.

My idea is that Adobe fixes this.

  11. We need a way to mass edit captions/subtitles!

We need a way to be able to edit ALL lines from an imported .srt file at the same time...

like formatting the background, font, size, placement... all at the same time.
(As opposed to currently where we need to do one line at a time)

Depending on the change needed and the talking speed of the speaker... It takes at least 30s-90s per minute of video to edit them one line at time...

which is a huge waste of time!

Please implement this functionality... it's should be too hard to fix from a software engineering point of view.

    and…

Resolved  ·  Reg Santo Tomas responded

Please see Nate’s comments. As he says, if this isn’t working as intended, please submit either a specific enhancement request or separate bug.

  12. Always keep captions visible in the Captions window

When working on captions, deselecting the captions clip in the Timeline (or selecting any other clip) makes all of the captions disappear from the Captions window. An empty Captions window is of zero benefit to editors and is an annoyance since it gives editors the added step of having to re-select the captions clip in the Timeline before they can continue to work on captioning.

My suggested solution is simple. Please always keep captions visible in the Captions window, whether the captions clip is currently selected in the Timeline or not. If the Timeline has 2 or more captions clips,…

  13. Captions Idea

The captions tool is annoying, and although it is faster than manually writing an SRT file, it's still not optimal in terms of speed. It's definitely slowing us indie houses down.

What would be ideal, is if the whole captions panel was one big box, in which you could paste the whole text body, and then through editing create the breaks, where the next line should come in.

This could easily be achieved with a simple STOP button and GO button and it'd work similar to multicam.

Think of it like an auto-cue, that can be paused when there is…

We have completely redesigned the captioning workflow in Premiere Pro version 15.0. While we didn’t implement your specific idea, I believe we have solved the underlying problem. And we have made many other dramatic workflow improvements too. Please update to the latest version.

  14. Closed captioning in/out points change after save

The in and out points change after the project file is saved. For example, if I trim a caption to end at a video cut, the next time I load the project, the outpoint have moved and the caption ends a couple of frames before the cut...

  15. After several font changes captions stop previewing

Noticing that if you make changes to the fonts and then keep tweaking, eventually Premiere just stops updating the preview of the captions and you need to close Premiere and manually clear the caches to solve.

Also finding that the drag to zoom will often get stuck in that target cursor mode not allowing you to do anything except restart Premiere to get your cursor back.

Overall the whole caption system in Premiere is pretty buggy.

  16. Fix the captions effects. I don’t pay over 100 dollars a month for a big pain in the butt!

I import open captions that are a .srt file. Before a recent update I could edit them and they would update on the fly, now I have to render them just to see my changes and most of the time it refuses to actually make the changes! Most of my time issue today fiddling with the captions to make them work and not actually editing my project. It worked perfectly fine before the last update, why do you continue to go backwards adobe?

  17. Re-enable free x-positioning of open captions (this worked in PPro2017)

This refers mainly to open captions for non-TV usage.

The position of captions does not allow for negative values anymore. So we are stuck with the left margin (x=0) being roughly at the standard "title safe" position. However, if your project is not limited by TV-standards and you want to use the entire screen width for subtitling, you can't. Any title will just go offscreen on the right with no way to re-center it. This was working in CC 2017 when PPro yould accept x values below zero. Please change this back again.

  18. Match Frame Captions to the Captions Panel

It would be great to add a function similar to match frame for clips, but for captions.

If I have a caption change that needs to be applied to an edit, I have to first match frame the caption clip from the Timeline, which'll then open in the Source Panel. From here I can see the clip's source timecode.

Next I have to scroll thru the Captions Panel referring to the In and Out points until I come across the caption referenced in the Source Panel. From here I can make my edit change.

My solution would eliminate this search…

We have completely redesigned the captioning workflow in Premiere Pro version 15.0. Captions reside in the all new Text panel which automatically follows along with your sequence, highlighting the current caption that is under the playhead. 19. captions bug with styles while adding multiple captions

Hello. I think it's a bug in premiere, can't explain it otherwise.
The problem is in captions window. I use File-New-Captions-Open Captions-Square Pixels. Then I start adding captins using Captions window and "+" Button. For the firt 3-4 pieces styling works fine, style of captions looks mire oe less the same (black bacground, positioning), I just need to adjust size. But when I push + Button for the 3-4 time suddenly black backgrpund is not there anymore and I can not turn it on. "Backgound color" button does not show anything.

  20. Allow the Ability to Select All Captions and Make Changes to Every Single One

If a .SRT file is imported and the client wants a different font the only way to change it is manually one by one. We should be able to select all and make adjustments.
