ANNOUNCEMENT - This forum is moving

In an effort to improve communications between you and the Premier Pro team, we are moving this feedback forum to the Premiere Pro page on the Adobe Support Community. As requested, bugs and feature requests will be able to live separately in that forum.

This move is happening in part to acknowledge that we haven't been responsive enough here, and we are combining our forums to help remedy that. Ideas and their attached comments from this UserVoice forum will be migrated based on how many people voted for them. Check your profile on the Adobe Support Community to see any migrated posts that you've created or commented on. If you have an item here that did not make the migration, please bring it over to our new home.

See you soon on the Adobe Support Forum!

  1. Duplicating open captions - making edits on duplicate shouldn't affect original

When you duplicate an open, burned in, caption, the edits you make on the duplicate affect the original. In my situation, I need to make captions in multiple languages. So if I were able to duplicate a caption, put the duplicate on a track above, and edit the new caption according to the pacing and text blacks of the original caption clip, that would save a ton of time. Instead I have to start from scratch in each language.

  2. Enhance captions by adding more controls

This idea is based on open captions.

I really like using Premier's captions because it's a very efficient way to add captions and edit them as needed.

However, there really seems to be a lack of editing controls to get what you need. For example:

    • There are no options to have super and subscript text.

    • You cannot adjust the position of the black bar.

I had a huge video and got all my captions set only to discover that I have to redo all captions manually since no superscript feature is available.

    Thanks for your consideration.

  3. BUG: SRT files don't import completely

In Premiere 2018 and 2019, the linked SRT ends before line 22 when imported into Premiere.

The file appears to be valid, and is imported correctly by AegisSub and Vimeo. I can't find a reason Premiere would cut it early—it looks like a bug to me.

  4. SRT problems after last update

    Hi,

since the last update to 13.14 (build 2), the SRT files I imported are offline. When trying to relink them, I get a message " the importer reported a generic error".

Before I had no problems opening the files.

    Thx

  5. Bug when exchanging captions via "Replace Footage..."

When trying to replace an .srt file with an updated one (which is very common e. g. after a typo has been found and corrected), the file will not actually update in the timeline. My specific file got replaced in the project panel (I can open it in the captions panel and see the changes there) but it does not update in timelines, or at least not every time! In those cases when I'm not involved in the review process for the captions, it is almost impossible to figure out if the file was replaced correctly, because I don't know…

  6. Closed Captions

I’d like for Adobe Premiere to have the capability to read captions from .mpg files. Thank you.

  7. P2 Movie export with embedded closed caption

Embedded closed caption in P2 card is integral to our Post Production workflow. However, the only way to do that is to master the project to P2 Card using Panasonic P2 deck via baseband SDI through edit to tape. By exporting directly to P2 card via P2 Movie, we have no feature to embed the closed caption to the video. Only sidecar and burn-in.

  10. Round-trip export/import of Open Captions needs to be WYSIWYG.

In Adobe Premiere, Open Captions that I export out of Premiere and then immediate import back into Premiere do not match how they were exported.

    Steps to repeat:
1 - In Premiere, create an Open Caption track. Create a two-line caption.
2 - Export caption using File > Export > Captions
3 - Immediately Import that caption file back into Premiere.
4 - Observe that the imported caption does not exactly match the original.

(Mostly tested in Adobe Premiere 2017, but I have verified that this problem persists in Premiere 2019 as well.)

  11. Closed Captions Support Embedded in H.264 Files

    Hello.

We are providing live closed captions for hundreds of our live sports broadcasts. All these broadcasts are encoded H.264 and transmitted using RTMP. At the end of each broadcast, we're like to take our H.264 recording, and edit it in Premiere. Unfortunately, Premiere does not appear to support embedded captions in H.264 import or export. That's unfortunate, since this is now industry standard. I can take my H.264 file with embedded captions and upload it to YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and others, and the captions remain without any issues. Adobe Premiere is the only issue in this chain, which is…

  12. Get CLOSED CAPTIONS to work! Or take the feature away.

Captions remain on over footage even though there are no captions in that spot on the timeline. See ATTACHED FILE

  14. AI powered transcription

The captioning system in premiere pro is average but could be so much better. In a perfect world, I would love to be able to put down a caption track and extend it through my timeline and have Adobe Sensei go through it and automatically transcribe the video and then place the transcriptions throughout the project. I do subtitles so much more than I used to considering that most content online doesn't play without audio and is necessary also for the hard of hearing, its fundamentally important in todays society to have a better solution to be able to provide…

  15. More caption problems - I am shocked at how bad it is!? Is this the quality of Adobe?

Probably no Adobe employee will so this, since the captions are NEVER fixed, but here it goes:

Captions in Premiere is pathetic. I know, I have been using it for a few years.

Even trying to work around the bugs is impossible.

Since we cannot control the spacing of the lines between the captions I have tried this:

I duplicated the caption to have different one for the second line (for when it is needed), only to find out that both caption files are still connected.

Making changes to one, traverses to the other, regardless of them being completely different…

  16. Control leading in Open Captions

It would be super if i could control the Leading (vertical distance) between two sentances in Open Captions.
At this time if i break an Open Captions sentance in two there is no way of controlling the vertical distance between the two parts.
The default leading is too big in most cases depending on the font which is used.

    Thank you.

  17. Open caption styling - unable to tweak line spacing and video size after import

Under the SRT import settings, two particularly useful settings cannot be change after import: video size and line spacing.

Changing the video size after import would be highly useful as sometimes a caption may need to be repurposed for different timelines. Alternatively allowing a caption to automatically resize and adapt to different timeline resolutions would be great - that way you could have the same caption file across different timelines without needing to import it 3 times with different settings.

Secondly, line spacing cannot be changed after import. If you set the line spacing to a particular percentage in the…

  18. Quality of SRT styled open caption when burnt into video

When importing an SRT in as an open caption and styling this, to then be burnt into a video, the output of the caption overlay is not of a high quality. There are harsh/jagged edges around the letters. A current workaround is to import the caption at a much larger font (e.g. 100), and then use a motion effect to downscale the whole caption size much further down in order to minimises the harsh edges.

  19. SRT Open caption styling - choosing a font weight in the import settings

Whilst you can define a custom font in the SRT import settings, it would be great to also choose a custom font weight. Currently this has to be changed via the captions editor after import. If you have a font family, you may have several font weights and there is room for error if you forget to select the correct font weight after import.

  20. Typekit fonts not working with captions

So far I have only seen this problem on Windows, and not OS X.

In the caption editor, Typekit fonts show up in the list of available fonts, but when you go to use them, the actual font doesn't change.

Sometimes the text simply disappears in the Program Monitor. If you revert back to a standard font set, the text reappears.

It doesn't seem to matter if you restart the program, or even the computer. Change font weights doesn't do anything either with the problem fonts.

Please note that Typekit fonts work if you use the regular Type tool, but…
