ANNOUNCEMENT - This forum is moving

In an effort to improve communications between you and the Premier Pro team, we are moving this feedback forum to the Premiere Pro page on the Adobe Support Community. As requested, bugs and feature requests will be able to live separately in that forum.

This move is happening in part to acknowledge that we haven't been responsive enough here, and we are combining our forums to help remedy that. Ideas and their attached comments from this UserVoice forum will be migrated based on how many people voted for them. Check your profile on the Adobe Support Community to see any migrated posts that you've created or commented on. If you have an item here that did not make the migration, please bring it over to our new home.

See you soon on the Adobe Support Forum!

  1. More robust caption functionality

The new (v15) captions are an improvement but I'd like to see the following:

    1. Functionality for R-L text. Arabic appears correctly in the caption window but displays L-R in the timeline/program monitor (see attached image where Arabic on lower level and in caption window is displayed correctly but not the displayed captions).

    2. We'd like to ditch our expensive to MacCaption but we need a way of importing translated timed transcripts into Premiere. The .srt export is great but we need some type of text file import to preserve timing in our language translations w/o having to cut and paste into…

  3. Caption missing features

Some features are missing within the new caption system - it used to be simple to assign two different colours to captions within the same point in time, but can't be done anymore - yet can be done with things like italics. Many companies use subtitles with colour guiding to signal who is speaking. Also the new command to flick to the start or end of captions using cmd, opt + up or down doesn't go to the end of the newest caption, so you manually have to move your cursor there every time.

  5. Captions Text File - not automatically saved outside of timeline

In the New V15 I am finding that if I make a New Cations (aka Text) file form my project the current text file does not appear as a new item in my project. What if I want several versions just like I may take a Raw clip of video and edit it several ways - each new sequence gets a new working slot in the project. The new Captions (Text files) are not automatically created. I have to export the .srt and reimport it if I want various working files.
Because you can not image why I need this…

  6. ID which Captions Track is Which

I like a lot about the new captions set-up. However, this arrangement assumes that I am working with only one set of Captions. I no longer have any place to look to see which set of Captions I have displayed. My name for a Captions file does not show-up anywhere in my project time line. I often have various versions going at any one time and I move captions from older ones into the Current Working version. I don't want my old versions to go away, but I need a way to know which row of captions is which. Given…

  7. Apostrophes don't display correctly in 608 Closed Captions

This is either a bug or a not-fully-baked feature: If you add an apostrophe to a 608 caption using the title tool in the canvas, it places a curly apostrophe and then renders incorrectly in the caption stream (as a box character). You have to instead type the apostrophe in the Text panel, where it will insert a straight apostrophe that renders correctly in the caption stream. Apparently curly apostrophes are unsupported in 608 CCs, and the Text panel knows this but the Text Tool doesn't.

Perhaps this is intentional and the goal is to allow curly apostrophes in open…

  8. Closed Captions in Premiere Pro 15 Nested sequences not embedding but burning in video instead

I was informed by a TV station after I delivered a new show that the captions were burned into the video rather than embedded for closed captioning. I discovered that my workflow included nesting commercials with the captions in the nest. When exporting to MXF the captions in the main timeline seemed to embed ok, however, the captions in the nested sequences burned the captions into the video so they are visible like subtitles. Which is not what I want. The old version 14.x would export all captions nested or otherwise as embedded. I'm on a 2018 MacBook Pro running…

  9. REMOVE CENSORSHIP on Premiere Pro NEW TRANSCRIPT feature

Your new text transcript feature censors certain words.
It is not the job of Adobe to censor anything.
That is an editor's decision not yours.
Please remove these restrictions as soon as possible.

  10. Captions

Allow the user to design the style of boxing around subtitles to be burnt in, Ghost box or full box.

Importing a text document to create subtitles, can only import subtitle files. If I subtitle from transcript I have to copy and paste each one rather than importing a document so that the subtitles can be set and you could split and move text accordingly.

  11. Issues with Closed Captions in 2021-- system needs work

Two things that are not working well in closed captions in Adobe Premiere Pro 2021:
    1) When a new caption box is created, one must scroll down through all the other captions to reach it. The new caption box should automatically appear in the source panel without having to scroll down.
    2) When I play the sequence to be sure my caption is properly matched to the audio track, the play bar sticks, so it fails to show where the playback is in real time. This is a BIG pain that hinders my ability to match audio track to caption.

  12. Embedded Captions don't work on MAC v15

Hello, I'm using the new ver15 and I'm wondering how to export closed captions. I have applied my captions, one is CEA-608 and the other 708, they are on caption track 1 and 2. If the eyeball is enabled on their track I see them as open captions in my pgm monitor, I also see them as normal captions on my pgm monitor (not sure how to disable/enable cc on my pgm monitor yet, but that's a separate issue).

My problem is when I export and I choose 'embed captions' in my MXF file, no captions are exported. This worked…

  13. Captioning configuration

The Speech-to-Text function in 15.0 is very impressive. It's already helping us out greatly.

However, I would like be able to configure the Transcript to Caption process. I mean, I'd like to be able to enter a min/max character count, and a line count when the captions are created from the transcript. Can this be done already, if so how?

  14. V15 BUG: Nested sequences with closed captions automatically render as open captions

I have a TV workflow where the main program w/captions sits inside a nest, and then several derivative versions carry that nested sequence while adding things like bars, slates and intro & outro disclaimers.

In the past, the captions flowed through as one would expect, but in the new version any nested CCs get rendered as open/burned captions no matter what you select for captions on export. This is pretty counterintuitive and limiting, but at least there is a workaround… you have to disable captions inside any nests, and then copy them to all the top-level sequences. (If you need…

  15. Portugal portugues is not the same as Brazilian Portugues

Guys, in the transcript tool we have the Portugese option, but keep in mind, Portugal portugues is not the same as Brazilian Portugues, and its Portugues, and not Portugese.

Please, with a few modifications, I believe you can put the Brazilian Portugues as an option, as seen you have a lot of market in Brasil too.

    Thanks

  19. Make captions track editable / layer moveable

Captions should be a moveable track so that it can be placed under other video layers e.g. to achieve a fade to black rather than a hard out.

  20. How to improve the P15.0 Text Feature

    Hi,

With the current Premiere Pro version 15.0 a new way of handling captions have been implemented. You can say what you want about the update, but here we are, and we need to make the best out of it.

Some features that would make this a whole lot better is:

    • When you add a captions on the current timeline and click out (of text) in to the sequence, the text layer is reset and when you go back to text, you need to scroll to the bottom again. It would be nice to always be where you were last…
